hybrid parking

I dont see an issue here.

I would never park my guzzler in a hybrid only spot at Ikea as long as there were an expectant mother slot available.

Me? I try to park sideways across at least two spots, preferably three, that really gets those smug Prius drivers pissed off.

why have you all determined that either being smug or being an ******* are the only choices in the world?

doesnt it make the most sense to have the hybrid drivers park at the back of the parking lot as they will burn the least fuel to get there?

fratboy - no. that would mean gas-guzzlers park up front, which will increase their emissions. and since the gaz-guzzlers burn more per mile, AND there is an increase in idle-time to park up front (read: waiting for someone to pull out), we should have these extra miles and extra idle-time spent with hybrids. that's the argument at least, although i know you thought you had a clever little jab and i'm equally certain that you already understand this.

zzzz - that argument is seen equally on the other side when people stick their head in the sand and think we can use as much energy as we want and there won't be long-term repercussions.

for the record, i don't think close parking for hybrid vehicles is a good way to combat carbon emissions, but i applaud individual businesses for the effort.

The favored parking I have seen is for high mileage vehicles, not specifically hybrids. Many smaller vehicles qualify.

Maybe IKEA should have built a store closer to Austin instead of all the way up in ******* Round Rock. It takes at least 2 tanks of gas and one whale's worth of blubber (it's an older SUV) to get there.

Just sayin...

Not sure, but I think this isn't the direct choice of the individual businesses, but a response to some Austin City Council program to be designated a "green" building so as to avoid some tax scheme.

Ikea wanted to come into Austin and build in Mueller, but the city had all kinds of building "design standard" hoops they wanted Ikea to jump though, and then wouldn't give them any Tax incentives.

So... Round Rock said build whatever you want, and gave them a bunch of tax incentives.

And all of us still drive up there, too.

Dell Children's Hopsital has a bunch of hybrid/alternative fuel car parking. I got all excited b/c I have a VW diesel. Then I realized I was the ONLY actual "hybrid/alternative fuel" car in the parking... oh well.
