Hybrid bike question

I'm looking to get my fatass in shape, and looking to buy a hybrid--I want to ride mostly on streets, but also be able to ride town lake type trails. Anyone know anything about the GT Nomad? I have a chance to buy a 2009 series like new for 300--retails for about 450-500 I think. It appears to be my size, although I assume it would be worthwhile to take it to a bike shop to get it "fit", correct?

Most frames in that price range are all going to be similar in quality, so just look at the components. For that much your probably getting Shmano Acera or Alivio parts, Deore if you are lucky. GT is a reputable brand. If it fits, go for it.

Great advice. I recently bought two mountain bikes, one for me and one for my girlfriend. I didn't do much research.

I bought her a K2 from REI that was on sale. I bought a Fuji from Sportmart.

Both were priced about the same. She has the Deore, mine the Acera. Her's is much better.
