Hyatt Lost Pines - Wolfdancer Golf

So I played the Wolfdancer golf course today at the Hyatt Lost Pines resort in Bastrop. I thought the course had a fantastic layout, the greens and tees were well kept, but the fairways could have been overseeded for the winter. It was really peaceful being away from the city and noise. Overall I had a great time and would definitely be willing to play there again once the weather warms up and everything starts turning green.

So I thought about maybe taking a weekend trip there for the anniversary, and letting my wife get massages and lay by the pool while I hit the links again. However, I looked at room rates online and it's like $280 a night to stay there. This is freakin Bastrop! Also, I read a lot of reviews online and people just didn't have good things to say about the resort. Evidently the hotel quality and service are very good, but it seems they try to nickel and dime you on everything. Has anyone stayed here before, and if so, what was your experience?

We stayed there in late September, and felt it was worthwhile, even though it was a bit on the expensive side. (It was vital that we get away from 4 kids for at least one night.)

We spent more than we needed to because my wife hit the spa and we dined at the best restaurant. I don't understand spas, so I question the need, but that's probably not a good approach with the average wife. The restaurant, on the other hand, was definitely not worth it. If you can handle staying at a resort and eating at the more casual locations, then I'd definitely go that route.

The rooms are fine, and are about what you'd expect for the money. They include a small refrigerator, so you can bring your own drinks and save a little money. (Drinks and snacks at the onsite stores are outrageous. I believe I recall something like $5 for a cup of coffee.)

The pool, on the other hand, is absolutely terrific, and that's where I think the resort earns its keep.

We'll go back, but next time, we'll just go for burgers, beer, and sunshine, and we'll probably shave $100 off our bill.

great golf course, just needs another year or so to mature. great layout. love the forecaddies.

i think they're after convention business more than anything. hope they make it, they've dropped some cash out there, that's for sure.

The thing that made it different from a lot of other nice Austin area golf courses was that it wasn't in the middle of a subdivision. I liked being able to play without having 50 houses along each fairway.
