Huntsman to quit and endorse Romney

Another non-story, Huntsman is quitting the race and endorsing Romney. See story.

Not that this guy was ever relevant in this race, but he's telling his 8 or 10 voters to get behind Romney.

That's a shame, he and Mitt were the only ones actually running campaigns and not just taking people's money. Huntsman would've been a good choice, but what do I give a ****?

I would guess Huntsman might be a Sec of State candidate. Really I'm sorry to see him drop out. I thought Huntsman and Gary Johnson had the best ideas of the group. Sadly Governing and Campaigning are two different things. At least they should be.

Huntsman is a decent guy, but he was never in this race for real. The media adored him (because they love moderate Republicans during primary season), and that's about all he had going for him.

Romney would never make him his VP. He's viewed as the centrist Mormon candidate. Why would he put another centrist Mormon on the ticket? He's going to put a conservative on the ticket, but I think it'll be somebody who's not one of the current candidates. I think Romney will also be smart enough to put someone with a brain on the ticket. He's not going to pull a Sarah Palin.

Secretary of State? Very possible, and Huntsman would be a very good choice.

The Republicans are going to have to work to keep everybody under the "big tent." Moderates attracted to an intellectual centerist like Huntsman aren't necessarily fertile recruiting grounds for Santorum, Gingrich or Perry. Obviously the well-educated, idealistic young Libertarians Ron Paul is bringing to the party aren't going to be overly excited to join with the folks who want to ban abortions, limit contraceptives and work to stymie the relationship options and civil rights of gays. The attitudes towards torture, international interventionist military policy and beefed up national defense won't be rock solid in one mindset at the GOP convention. The social conservatives are going to have to get used to candidates snuggling up to them in the primaries then keeping thier distance during the general election because that's how you get elected. Will the social conservatives still back a candidate more moderate than Gingrich in hopes of ousting Obama? or will they stay home in droves and let Obama hang on? Creative politicians are working on these issues. It will be interesting to see what plays out over the next few months.
