Hula Hut

Hula Hut is great, I love the combo of Polynesian and Mexican. Plus eating while looking out at Lake Austin is awesome.

The Pipeline chicken burritos are excellent, as are the Ritas and other drinks. The wait can be the longest in Austin, because people always bring their friends from out of town to Hula Hut so they can eat on the lake. But, on a nice, day, there is plenty of outdoor waiting space, and you can order drinks and such. It is a nice way to wait, really, sipping drinks looking at the lake, getting a tan.The food can be a little weird, with pineapples appearing on the menu here and there. And the salsa is a little bit odd but good. It is sweet and hot and spicy all at once. One thing they need to work on is getting BLACK BEANS. I am not a fan of refried, and Hula Hut should have them.Otherwise, the fajitas and burritos are PLENTY to eat, and not altogether expensive for what you get.You might even be tempted to buy a Hula Hut shirt on your way out. They are pretty neat looking. The waitpeople are always pretty nice looking. The females working there always exude a certain level of sexiness- if you like surfer chicks. And the guys working there probably are dating the women. As for efficiency, sometime they are not on top of the bringing of more drink or chips, and the food can sometimes take several minutes more than you want to wait. The quality of the food itself is highly impressive, as they don't skimp on ingredients. You will like this Hawaiian/Mexican place.Hook 'em.------------------

I'm trying to think of a reason why anyone would eat inside at the Hula Hut. The food is solid, but not spectacular. But the covered pier may be my favorite place to set down a plate in Austin. My wife & I are big fans of the sampler platter. The ribs are sweet & tangy and tubular tacos are actually very creative. My biggest problem with the place is that while they have Chuy's chips & pico de gallo, I would sometimes kill for the Chuy's salsa with my meal. Is is too much to ask for the salsa?

Hadn't been back in a while till last week. Went and about freaked over the price increase. When the hell did that happen? As for the food, I love the pipeline(s) and the view from the pier is incredible. It's one of my favorite places in the spring and summer.

great atmosphere . . .food sucks unless you're polynesian

Good place to have cocktails and then go have dinner somewhere else

What Dex said. Nice atmosphere, but the food is ****.
