Disagree, Dog. I think Huckabee hung around as long as he has specifically waiting for that story to break. This was written and done back in December, but the Times was convinced by McCain's lawyer (who, btw, is the same lawyer who represented Clinton in the Lewinsky affair) and the lobbyist's lawyer to hold on to it.

They knew it was coming....it's why Mitt only suspended his campaign.

I think it actually strengthens Huck's position b/c a VP slot for Huck offsets the already present distrust of McCain w/n the social conservative bloc (Dobson, Perkins, Scarborough, et al) that has the potential to now morph into a "See, we told you so" narrative and lay out of this election altogether.
