HTC EVO 4G as a Business Phone

My company has Sprint as our cellphone carrier (I wanted Verizon but that is another matter

) and will be getting the HTC EVO 4G. I had a Touch Pro with MS 6.5 OS. Now I have Outlook 2007 and other Office apps on my laptop, so I haven't really figured out if you can sync the HTC to my laptop Outlook program or will I have to keep both separate. Any other hints, experiences would be appreciated. It looks like mid August to get the phone.

Thanks

Do you sync with an Exchange Server? It's pretty easy to set up a corporate e-mail account and sync with your companies exchange server. I think the EVO comes with Exchange Active Sync capability. I'm not familiar with it, but I would imagine its decent. There are also 3rd party apps which provide more robust corporate options such as RoadSync and Touchdown.

If you don't have an exchange account, it looks like HTC Sync will sync with your Outlook email and calendars by USB, but that seems to have mixed results.

Yes, this is what HTC Sync is for. Install that on your laptop, and then whenever you plug the EVO in via USB, it will present HTC Sync as an option on the phone to automatically sync.

For the calendar, you could also install Google Calendar Sync on your computer. That would shoot your Outlook calendar appointments up to your Google Calendar, which the EVO would then pull down OTA. That way, you have e-mail and calendar syncing wirelessly and would only need HTC Sync for contacts.

I am not familiar with either program (we use Exchange at work) but others on a couple of Android forums have reported good results with these.

My EVO does fine for work except that you have to change the settings to sync more frequently. The only drawback is that it will not sync up as fast as say the blackberry. I haven't timed it, but I think mine syncs about every 10 minutes which could be ok or too slow depending on what you do for a living. My calendar, contacts, notes, reminders, etc works very well.

The Evo kicks all kinds of technological *** and, unlike the iphone that I got rid of, does not drop every other call.

BTW, the "as they arrive" setting seems to get really good syn times. As a test, I received the subject e-mail in about 20 seconds.
