HS umpire gets beaned

Glad the catcher lost his chance. He's not so innocent because it was obviously premeditated and now he's lying about it.

Nice looking stadium, btw.

What an idiot. I didn't need multiple slow motion replays to tell what a bad acting job that was. If the catcher was really clever, he would have signaled for the high heat, and jumped out of the way like he would for a pitch out.

Kudo's to the college for having the morals and sportsmanship to do what is right. Maybe this only " one incidient" will teach this young man a lesson..

While that sucks and is classless, how do 9 straight hitters strike out. Surely they don't suck that bad. Without seeing it I'm calling at least some BS on the umpires' part.

funny, yes.
sorry, man... i've seen quite a few umps who deserved a good fastball like that.

i'm guessing 9 straight k's, which could very well be legit, would piss me off too.

do you punch the ref that fouls out your team? Crazy.

When would a ref deserve to be beaned? If he were talking ****, maybe. But being a ****** ump (and who knows if he was here) doesn't mean you would deserve to be beaned.

That sure as hell looks like it hit the batter. Not sure if it changes the outcome, but I think the batter was hit first,

The same thing happened this year in 2A Softball playoffs when Angela White from S&S hit the ump against Brock. The ump tossed her and the catcher immediately. Then the UIL forced S&S to suspend them for the next game, or risk her being inelligible for the rest of the playoffs. White is very good, didn't allow an earned run until the 4th round of the playoffs. But that stunt almost cost them a chance to go to state. She had 15 strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to Coahoma in Austin.

ramathorn, i felt joey crawford deserved a right cross for ejecting tim duncan while he was laughing on the bench.

i wouldn't condone the bean, but i still got a laugh. you just don't see that. ever. it's almost original. if it makes you feel any better i didn't think it was cool at all when alomar spit in umpire's face.

not sure why this is such a huge story. the ball hit the ump's mask, causing zero damage; also the kids could have made it less obvious. either way the umpire is a tool for considering litigation

I read and saw this yesterday on another site. It still amazes me that people throw a BUT in the conversation. It was a cheap act by the catcher and pitcher, period. Any rationalization of why they did it is neither funny or defensible. There are other ways to deal with the situation.
How many times have you seen a player get hit in the head, even a glancing blow, and not react to it. The kid never even flinches. Don't be fooled by the angle of the camera.

As a former catcher I cannot tell you how many times that crossed my mind, but I had way too much respect for the game and authority to ever do it.

You cannot justify and act like that under any circumstance.
