can't remember procedure. If teams play this weekend, do they flip today or tomorrow? McKinney North HS is playing against Hallsville, haven't seen a schedule yet.
I would guess all playoffs are now best of three until you get to Round Rock?
Rotahorn, While you are waiting for the Calallen/Moody, you can watch my Reagan Rattlers #17 in the nation take on Mission Sharyland #18 in the nation Friday 7:30 at the Fairpark in Robstown or Staurday at 2:00 at Cabaniss field in Corpus. Should be a great series.
Orangecat, I believe that teams have the OPTION of a single game playoff if both teams agree to do it. Obvoiusly this is almost unheard of though. I always thought it strange though that they're 3-game series until you get to Austin. Seems weird. Kind of like some of the weird formats in Omaha through the years.
One game playoff is an option. Austin Westlake and Laredo United are playing one game rather than best of three.
Not sure how it is decided between the schools. I would guess that if the format is not mutually agreed upon by the coaches, then there would be coin flip.
The teams flip. The coach winning the coin toss chooses the format, best 2 of 3 or 1 game only. After that choice is made, the other coach has the choice of sites. I believe that when the coaches agree to a 3 game series, without a coin toss, a neutral site is chosen as the location.
Coach Chapman, Calallen, normally prefers a three game series. Calallen has 2 very good pitchers this year. Their ace is a senior who will be playing in Norman when school starts again.
Lake Travis has a strong team this year. They play Calallen on 5/29 @ LT and then the series moves to Calallen for games 2 &3. Hopefully the Austin area will be represented well in the state tourney with both Lake Travis and West Lake making it. Good luck to the Chaps and GO CAVS!
Will miss the Horns Regional this week, but "HOOK'EM HORNS"!
McKinney North played a one game playoff against Hallsville and won last night. next up is the winner of Texas HIgh vs. Rockwall Heath. Winner of that goes to state.
UT Horn Fan,
I am in the same situation. If the horns weren't playing I would be fishing in Red Fish bay in the am and watching the Rattlers in the pm. By the way, Reagan outscored opponents 47-17 in 5 postseason games, so this should be great series.
Rotahorn- You might not get your Moody/Calallen match up after all. Alamo Heights beat CC Moody 1-0 in game 1. Double header tomorrow in SA. It will take a lot for heights to win another game but who knows.
Go Reagan Rattlers! Mission has never seen baseball until they've seen rattler baseball. They will soon learn the coach chapman has the ability to steal the souls of opposing players, aka our secret weapon.
Alamo Heights used their No. 3 pitcher to beat Moody in Game 1, so now they have their ace ready for Saturday. Their ace came in to get the save Thursday, and I believe he sat Moody 5 up, 5 down to end the game. Moody could be in trouble.
Moody was closed for some days due to Swine Flu scare. I'm not certain if it was Moody or Miller that was closed over a week. The disruption probably didn't help the team.
Calallen didn't close during the scare. The only disruption they experienced was the halt in games.
Moody came back and 10 run ruled both games on Saturday against Alamo Heights. Calallen beat Lake Travis so it is going to be a rematch- Moody v Calallen.
Condolences to Bill in Sinton whose Sinton Pirates fell to my alma mater, the Giddings Buffaloes, today. Giddings was down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th when they got a 2 run homer to tie it and send it to extra innings.
Then with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of 8th for Sinton, Giddings brought back their ace who shut out Sinton on Thursday. He proceeded to get the first man he faced and then coaxed a double play to get out of a bases loaded, no out jam.
...which set the stage for a walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth to send Giddings to the Regional Final against fellow District 25-3A rival, Bellville, with a spot in the State Tournament at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on the line.
