HS Allstar Watching

We've got a couple of allstar games with HS seniors coming up, one in San Antone, one in Saint Pete FL.

We have several recruits in the games - four in one and seven in the other, I think.

But apparently there are quite a few studly types who are still uncommitted - or at least unannounced in their commitments. Some of them will go on TV and play hat games to announce, but there may still be cherries to be picked.

The Under Armour game is tonight (ESPN), and the Army game is Saturday (NBC).

Who are you looking at? I'm thinking we still have a couple of spaces available...

Why we never went hard after O'Leary when he showed a little interest, I will never know, but I have a feeling we are going to regret it when we see him on the field tonight. The guy is a player.

Searching for the players in tonights game. Cant find anywhere. Any help. I know we have Turner and Diggs. Who else?

BTW, the 4 playing tonight are Q.Diggs, C.Westerman, D.Jackson and J.Turner. Of those, I think Jackson will get the earliest playing time next year - and not just because of the (lack of) depth.

Our D recruits are looking great. Josh Turner is all over the field so I have a feeling he will be moved to DB. Desmond Jackson is a beast in this game... let Bo develop him and he will be a stud DT. Diggs is fast as hell...great closing speed! The future of this class looks bright, I can't wait for the Army game!

Jaxon Freaking Shipley!!!! Did anyone else see that catch???? He has the "it" factor just like his brother did!

Aaron Taylor has a strange habit of inserting the phrase "be able to" where it doesn't belong. eg "His speed allowed him to be able to close on that play". At least four times today he has noted a player's "ability to be able" to do something.

Our O-Line recruits seem awfully raw. They have been getting dominated at the line the entire game. Hope we get a good OL coach to develop these guys.

I felt like all the Texas players were asked to take a seat- Shipley had a highlight reel TD.

They barely gave the ball to Malcolm. Our LBs seemed to not get much time. And Flowers played every play on the OL. The East's DL did dominate the West's OL- but, you can't put too much on something with 5 days of practice like that.

One player broke an arm. The football was horrible- and you get the feeling the entire game that this is just a dumb sponsor showcase for the Army, a few companies and the recruiting industry.

I'm not putting much weight into the actual football we saw today.

Agree. There was very little, if any, actual football today. The offenses were awful and they threw the ball almost every play. I'm not sure any of the west RB's had more than 3 touches each. Bottom line: a meaningless and horribly boring exhibition.

Didn't actually watch any of the game but by the score and what others have posted, looks like I didn't miss much.

I went to the game. You didn't see on TV that Shipley was open at least 3 other times that would have been TDs; however the West OLine was horrible and rarely gave the QB enough time. Jaxson is so fluid and cuts on a dime. Bro Jordan was on the sideline and trying to watch intently but was interupted often for pic and sig requests.

My concern seeing Steve Edmond for the first time..... he is overweight and has a slight beer gut. He was continually screened out of the play and was not fighting through any blocks. I was underwhelmed by him.

Yeah, it seemed that, not only was Flowers getting beat just about every time, he was doing it in record time. In other words, it's not as if he was holding his block for a couple of seconds and the QB was holding onto the ball too long. Whoever he was match up against burned him in split seconds.
Sucks about Edmond but, from what I've seen, I don't think our new S&C coach will have an issue turning that around.

Flowers wasn't great pass-blocking and reacting to the defensive movements. However, he did do a good job run-blocking and pinning DL to the inside. That seemed to be Westerman's strength to (although he was OK in pass protection). Maybe that is more of what the staff had targeted for OL recruiting.

Watching the Army All American game...Jaxon is going to be the ****. His route running is immaculate. I'll take Mike, Darius, and Jaxon all day long.
