How's the Disch?

Everything is different, but then again, it looks (maybe feels) almost the same.
The seats are green, coated with something like plastic, much more comfortable than the old aluminum seats.
Lots more urinals in the men's room, more stalls, too, and after the game there were still paper hand towels available-that's a first.
Trash cans and cans for recycling bottles and cans, whoohoo!
More concession stands, including a trailer down on the left field end from South Side Market in Elgin (BBQ!). On the east end, there is a hamburger place with fish and chips on the menu, and a deck with picnic tables overlooking the first base side where you can sit and eat.
There is more space out in the walkway where the concession stands are located, so you don't have to push your way through people standing in the hotdog lines.
The stands had some new menu items, don't know if the food has improved, or if the hotdogs are still the kind that should be fed to farm animals. However, they did have frito pie on the menu.
No one is sitting where they used to sit, and the dugouts have switched sides. I have cognitive dissonance from the experience, and will require couseling for the next six months.
Couldn't get over the change, after sitting in the same seats for 30 years.
Sound system, vastly improved.
If 400 people in wheelchairs decide to show up for a game, they will all be easily accomodated.
Saw Coach Gus walking to the entrance ramp prior to the game, shook his hand. Great to see him in attendance.
Really, it is very nice, just seemed strange after attending so long. Maybe not as strange as the change from Clark Field to Disch-Falk Field, however.
Entertaining game-UT has a great set of outfielders this year, and VCU was a quality opponent for an opening game, unlike so many in the past who hadn't been able to practise outside and were horribly prepared to begin a season.
Parking situation sucks bad unless you have big bucks to donate to the LHF. This is a real problem.
The busses were there, over the right field fence, as always.
Looks like they won a stay of execution for now.
The atmosphere is somewhat antiseptic now-everyone is spread out away from their former partners in crime, and there is no group of fans ragging the opposition-I did see one section out in left field that looked pretty lively.
Fun day, beautiful weather, good win by the Horns, and the old ballyard looks pretty darned good.

Ok, but how many pickle slices are they putting on the burgers? Seriously, thank you so much for your reply

I left out the appearance by the Cowboys and Smoky the Cannon, way out in the left field area, and they fired off Smoky prior to the first pitch.
There is a grassy sloped area past the left field bleachers that would hold overflow crowds, if they allow that. For now, it is a great place for kids to run around and play during the game.
Will report later on the number of pickle slices on the burgers, move research is needed.

That strange feeling is right. Not many people changes in our section, but you could look down below, and it was very quiet - much more so than usual. Having the team in the 1st base dugout is not as strange as I thought it would be, but I miss watching Augie during games.

The Southside Market trailer in left is a huge plus. $3 Elgin sausage wraps! Cooked this century! The burger guy is in right, and there's plenty of room for more real food vendors. There's more concession stands, but they appear to be mostly the same old crap.

Bathrooms are huge. I mean, really huge. Lots of room underneath for when we're hiding from weather. Getting in and out of the stadium will be much better than before (but the walk out to the parking lots will suck).

For the early spring games, those new outfield seats in the sun are sweet. The wind tunnel effects in the grandstands seemed a little different, but I don't know exactly how. The new lower net is nice - much less obstructed view - but the first foul ball back over behind the plate surprised the hell out of everyone.

Finally, and most importantly , that's potentially a great team. Danks in center is a pitcher's dream.

The grassy sloped area is not for over flow crowds, it's the general admission seating, but with so many empty reserved seats early in the season, no one's sitting there.

You get to put your own pickle slices on the burgers. I put on 3.

Bathrooms are huge, but for 2 years and 21 million dollars, they could have sprung for self-flushing urinals.

Seventy-two women's toilets. That's right -- 72.

It's going to take me a while to get used to sitting above the Longhorns' dugout. I sit with a couple of experienced raggers, so we should still have a lot of fun, but I will miss the cluster of Wild Bunch over the dugout.

Bevo was there today. They had him in a pen down the left field line and you could get pretty close to him to take pictures. He's jsut beautiful.

They also gave away commemorative replicas of DFF. They look pretty good for free.

The stadium is nice, but frankly, it doesn't feel like home.

i was there yesterday and today. Once you sit and start watching the game, it feels the same as always. My seats were not affected at all - just a row # change. All the folks I've been sitting by for 20+ years are still there. And we don't have to stand up and look around a light pole to see if Kyle catches the ball. BONUS!

the bathrooms oh my holy quacamole! We'll see how it goes in the summertime - if they still have to put the big fans in there to air it out. Incredible all the women's stalls.

I will like it even more at the Disch when the astro turf wears out and we have real grass. But truly it feels the same on the inside to me.

What happened to Wilson? Is he still down on the 1st base side of home plate?

Here's the Longhorn himself:

I agree with what others posted above. I think the best change was probably the addition of 60 more bathrooms. Wilson was there today, he sits a few rows behind the 1st base dugout.

For most of the game I was sitting across the isle from Wilson - he in section 3, me in 2. It was strange today seeing the Wild Bunch scattered between the 2 sections. It took me awhile to orient myself when I first went in. Personally, I don't like sitting behind the screen they've stretched across section 3 to the dugout. And as someone else has said, you can pile on as many pickles on your burger (or sausage wrap or beef sandwich) as you want. Just be considerate and leave some for others

the concourses are huge and the patio thing thing down the right foul line is awesome.

i was never one to complain about the Disch in it's previous state, but it's much nicer than Reckling (the other college stadium that I'm most familiar with).

this was the first time I've been to the Disch since the addition of the infamous "soundtrack", but it wasn't too horrible and some of it was even mildly amusing (playing emf's "unbelievable" after VCU's 4th error).

i still don't get playing the "Bonanza" music when Johnson makes a mound visit.

...and the fireworks were kind of cool. kind of....

I am away in Southern Cal and was checking y'all's comments.

In other words, y'all are, let's say, "underwhelmed" by the new and improved Disch .. Right? .. I am not seeing anybody much thrilled about anything, except being able to pee better with more urinals.

MISHATX: That's funny - I kind of thought the same thing. It went through my mind on the first trip to the magnificent new potties - "Hmmm.. I still have to flush it..." Not a big deal of course, but I agree - all the fancy new places have auto flushers

For what that's worth.

Looking forward to another great game - let's see if the the boys' swagger after winning two is tempered enough to win 3!

My nitpick -- old row numbers still painted on the stairs in the aisles. I don't know how many times people around us have thought others were in their seats only to find out that they are off by nine rows. My row is 7, but the aisle still says it is 16.

If you haven't had a chance to get out and check out the new digs, you've gotta ASAP. My opinion of UFCU-DFF =
