Now it just so happens that every once in a while a happy HornFans denizen will come upon a link in an e-mail or from another board or wherever that they find interesting. They will have the urge to post it on HornFans. The instructions below are based on the premise that you have a link you want to share and have decided to ignore Huckleberry's HornFans.com Link Theory found here.
So, you've got what you think is an interesting story. But you don't want to go sifting through every thread from the last week to see if it has been posted. Let's take an example case. On this forum, whickums has posted a link to the following story:
The Link
Let's say I happened to come across the story from somewhere else. How could I check that I wouldn't be making a duplicate post? Perhaps I want to be nice to the moderators and not give them extra work. Or maybe I'm scared of having one of the 200 volunteer HornFans pseudo-moderators follow my post with "already posted." What do I do?
That's where the handy search feature comes in. The url to whickums' story is http://www.msnbc.com/news/925113.asp#BODY. All I have to do is click on Search at the top of any HornFans.com forum page. Make sure that it's set to All Forums and All Posts and then enter the URL into the search field. It's amazingly simple to use. And to make it even easier, I could enter only part of the URL, for example I could drop the #BODY anchor in case whickums didn't post it. Go ahead, give it a try. You'll be amazed.
Sure, sometimes you don't give a ****, and I understand. But if you're going to care enough to type "Sorry if this has already been posted" then go ahead and search. Because you're probably not really all that sorry if you don't.
Thank you.
