How long until checks void?

I gave someone a check back in October and they have not yet cashed it. I don't have the person's contact information at all. It is only for like $30 but I am wondering how long is my personal check good before it voids? Some checks say 90 days or whatever but mine do not say that.

I've always heard 180 days as a rule of thumb, but when it comes down to it it's a matter of whether the person at your bank is really paying attention to the date or not. The guy who took care of our cats one Christmas didn't deposit the check for a year and a half and it went through fine...

I paid some guy on my street for some Boy Scout popcorn for his son's troop. He waited close to 6 months to cash it. Really annoying b/c I have my checking account balanced to the penny so for several months my #s did not align with the online #s b/c I was still awaiting for him to cash it.... He came by this year and I paid him cash.
