The flu always decreases w/ hot weather. By July it shouldn't be a big deal. I've heard the powers that be are expecting it to re-emerge w/ a vengance next fall/spring.
My wife is still worried about this swine flu thing. The baptism is in 2 months but we need to put our deposit down on the church soon to hold a date (looks like we are doing a private ceremony)....
I am hoping that they come out soon and say this thing is done.
What they've come out and said is that it appears to be no more dangerous (deadly) than the regular flu. It's a flu bug that appears to have about the same death rate among healthy folks as most other flu bugs, plus or minus a percentage point here or there.
The panic was not about the transmission rate, but about the death rate. That fear now appears to be unfounded.
Let's put it this way -- I haven't and wouldn't change any plans I make over the swine flu, or any other flu.
A new report today from WHO indicates that this flu is slightly more contagious & dangerous than the regular flu. The Link
As another poster said, summer time is usually very low in risk for flu. Also, so long as we're dealing with the same version of the current flu it appears that the risk of death is low providing you don't have any chronic health issues.
However, we're not out of the woods until next Spring. We have to get through this next flu season, and develop a new vaccine, before we know if we're past the risk of a more deadly mutation.
its so amusing - in HK they are terrified of any sort of Flu since SARS so they implement a lot of ludicrous 'containment' strategies to make people feel better - everyone who can be forced to wears masks (security guards, tellers, waitresses), they spray elevator buttons about every ten minutes.
In my building they now have controlled access points with cameras to see if you have a fever etc.
Over by Kowloon Park a crew was doing work on the sidewalk or road close to it which caused some dust. There were 3 work trucks, a car and the workers. I passed by it a couple times and never really paid too close attention until I saw a few of the workers with masks on. WTF? I thought as I walked by the site without a mask. What are they doing and why do they need masks and here I am without one right next to them.
I think it was HinHK that told me that when people are sick, some people, they mask up. That made me feel better when I saw some that had masks on in the MTR, buses and ferry as well as just milling about town. Still, it was different and sort of alarming.
The people wearing them seemed to be in their late 40s or older. There was one person on my flight back with one on the plane. I did not use the bathroom they used just in case.
