How is the Venetian (vegas)??

I am in the midst of planning a 5 day trip to Vegas over Christmas with the wife.

Now, we are not really nightclub types, and fairly low rollers in terms of gambling. We are looking for a place that will provide good rooms, shopping, entertainmnet/shows and a decent casino.

I thought the Venetian looked nice on the website - but wondering what others think of the place. Price is not a huge deal since we are not Vegas "regulars" and probably won't go back for several years.

Anyone know if it is worth the extra cash to get a room at the Venezia tower with the conceirge service?? Is comes out to about an extra $100 per days, but there are perks like food etc.

I also wanted to do a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon/Hoover damn - any recs? I suppose if we use the conceirge they would schedule it for us, correct??

What about good shows and places to eat?

Any good romantice restaurants to check out??

Thanks.

The towers are very nice. I've never stayed in the regular rooms. There is a smaller pool for the towers but at christmas i guess its not a big deal. The helicopter tour was pretty cool.

I read your thread title completely wrong.

With respect to your question, the Venetian is one of my two or three favorites on the Strip, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to you. I've never stayed in the Towers, however, so I can't comment on that, but the regular rooms are still very nice.

venetian is nice. eat at Tao, food is good and it's a fun scene. if you like italian, make a reservation as early as you can across the street at Rao's (caesars), it's allsome.

It is very nice and the basic rooms are extraordinary. My only complaint is that it's huge and not very personal, but that's pretty much par for the course in Vegas, save perhaps The Hotel or the Four Seasons.

You must have breakfast on the courtyard at Bouchon.

I agree with all the other posters. The Venetian is very nice, the regular rooms are great. I have stayed at the following Vegas hotels and would rate in the following order.

1. Venetian
2. Mirage
3. Aladdin
4. Westin
5. Circus Circus

The rooms are spectacular. However, whichever wing we stayed in, it took like 10 minutes to get there from the lobby(long hallway, elevator, hallway, another elevator etc.). Even longer from the casino and/or mall. So don't forget anything in the room once you go out.

check the relative rates on the wynn, since they have gone down and are competitive with venetian, especially towers.

the wynn is allsome.

also, the venetian gets tons of visitors form other hotels, due to the theme. makes the casino VERY crowded.

I stayed at the venetian about 10 times in 3 years, prior to my last trip. i will always stay at the wynn now.

Fashion Show mall is across the street, which pwns the venetian canal shops.

Dining recs (take a cab. don't worry about eating where you stay):

Bouchon (Venetian)
David burke - possibly my favorite restaurant ever. you will love it. (venetian)
Rao's (ceasar's) - outstanding

those are my "must eats". I will NEVER go to LV and not eat at david burke's place. it's hard to describe, but as a big food person, i am amazed by the place.

Agree with scottsins on David Burkes. The Creek Stone Ribeye chop and the Lobster steak are magnifico!!

My firm is using the Venetian for the Consumer Electronics Show and we have been out there numerous times on site visits. Just a couple of additional points:

• Overall, really like the hotel and the location – but it can be very crowded.
• The have recently refurbished a majority of the rooms in the main Venetian tower. With the renovation the rooms look more like THE Hotel?W style. Dark woods and streamlined. Gone is the Italian Rococo from the initial development. However, not all of the rooms are complete – make sure to request a refurbished room at both the time of the reservation and check-in.
• I think the Venezia (sp?) tower is not worth the money. The rooms are on par with the refurbished rooms in the main tower and you are paying an incremental fee. The concierge floor is nice – but again, I personally do not want to hang out in a common area.
• Walking through the main casino and central elevator bank can be a nightmare. A shortcut is to walk into the main entrance, go right of the front desk to the Venezia elevator bank, take the elevator up to the Venezia lobby, exit/turn left, walk to Bouchon, turn left and you will walk into the main elevator bank on the 10th floor of the hotel and avoided everyone from Jersey. This is very easy.
• Food on a five point scale (1- dog food, 5 – great meal worth the price): B&B 3.5, Delmonico 4, Zeffarino 1, Postrio 2, Bouchon (Dinner) 2.5, Pinot Brassiere 2, Grand Luxe 3. Will hit David Burke in a week or two.
• Also will have a report on the Palazzo Tower (new Adelson hotel connects to the Venetian) when I return in January.

I was also thinking about making a trip to the Venetian.

Quick question - if one wants a decent view, is it necessary to book a "view" room on the website - for example, the regular Venetian "luxury" is going for about $190. While the "luxury view" is going for $230.

Seems like a lot more, but I would hate to be stuck in a room facing a wall or something. Does "view" indicate view of the strip??

i bet he knew that, po.

lonestar, i can not fathom how bouchon rated 2.5 for you, but to each his own.

I had the veal and it was one of my top 10 dishes ever.

david burke is badass. the "lobster steak" was sort of disappointing, but the apps and sides were killer.

PLEASE, if you like truffles, get the truffle frenh fries.

ask about all of the glowing salt blocks and egg statues. the deal with DB is that efery single thing, including the sugar presentation with coffee appears to have had a 4 hour "meeting".

lots of detail and thought into the concept.

great place, but then again, I loved bouchon, so i may be full of ****.
