Pretty much like any hotel in the middle of a business district. It is on Town Lake and has a nice atrium. Food has been above average. Rooms are nice, nothing extraordinary but nicer than most downtown except the Four Seasons and equal to Marriott, although the Marriott pool area is much better.
The Embassy Suites is across the driveway.
Avoid whatever that thing is that Lloyd Hayes built on Interregional between 5th and 6th. Traffic nightmare, very poorly designed. At one time it was a Sheraton, not sure what brand is on it now.
It's much nicer than it was last year. As unpainted mentioned, they just completed a $7 million guest room renovation and are in the midst of a $17 million public space renovation.
If you recall the old look, it was kind of "Hill Country elegant"; the new look is sleek and chic, but still warm and welcoming. The guest rooms have a clean, modern look with new flat screen TVs and iPod docks.
The lobby bar has undergone the most dramatic transformation from what I've seen. They removed the little stream that ran through the lobby and completely changed the layout of the seating. It now appears much bigger.
The "fajita" restaurant has also been (or will be--can't remember the timeline on that one) revamped.
It is well worth $100 IMO and I am a hotel snob.
From my experience, you should expect good to great service there. Please report back and tell us what you thought of it.
If the Four Seasons is a true 5 star, then the Hyatt is a solid 3.75-4 star.
The location is a bit of a pain if you are interested in downtown, but it is great if you want to get down to South Congress, the restaraunts on Barton Springs, etc.
They also let you check out fairly decent mountain bikes to use on the trail or to get to and from downtown (no rental charge).
