How does DF compare to other 'jewels'?

There have been lots of posts here and on OrangeBloods about the much-improved Disch-Falk Field. Augie himself has been quoted along the lines of "they done it right", and that in retrospect he was in error about wanting a whole new place to play. I have never been to a Horns away game in baseball, but over the years I've read about how some colleges have knock-out stadiums or ballparks. I recall that Rice is one of those schools. Maybe Baylor? Anyway, for the well-traveled among you who have been to some of these top college baseball shrines, how does the new DF compare to them?

The Disch is the jewel and the others are the chips surrounding it.

I also thought they should have torn it down and started over, but yeah, they did it right (other than the grass). I hate turf so much that I can't say that it's better than Baylor or Reckling, though.

Beau...if the turf/grass had anything to do with you or me, I might agree with you. I suppose it would be pretty to look at, but I'm more concerned with how it affects our team. They play very well on the turf, and I haven't ever noticed it being a detriment to them when they play on grass. I believe, on the other hand, it is worth several runs a year to us and probably a game or two. What is the down side in that? Fact is, we will probably not put in grass when the present turf needs to be replaced. I have heard from more than one source they will more than likely install 'Turf 2', which looks and feels more like real grass, even down to the little 'dirt' pellets that are down in the pile.

Best college field in the 48 is at Gonzaga in Spokane, WA. It's not only beautiful and fan-friendly, but you can sit there and gaze at the Rockies in the distance. Awesome - but a little out of the way, to say the least.

LSU and UNC are getting new stadiums that are supposed to be badass. And obviously Oregon will be incredible with Nike Field.

I agree with the above. Sunken Diamond is a beautiful park, albeit kind of small. But the setting is phenomenal.

Alex Box definately has the best atmosphere. I went there for UT series, and from the tailgate to the fans to the park, it was a great experience.

When I lived in Baton Rouge I caught a few games at ABoxx and it was awesome indeed. The tailgating (as in food) and atmosphere (as in women) was amazing. LSU was ruling college baseball at that time so the fan support was outstanding. Even now it is great but not like it was then when Skip was the coach and they were the kings of the hill.

I lived about four blocks or so from Death Valley and caught a couple of games but never missed a tailgate opportunity. They do it right and it blows the doors off UT football tailgating. There is no comparison. I love Baton Rouge.

Wait, I love some things about Baton Rouge.

Florida State has a great park, too. And considering that the Texas folks visited FSU to get ideas on how to redo DFF, apparently Deloss liked the setup in Tallahassee. Texas didn't do too badly there when they went to Florida for a Super a few years back...

Disch Falk Field is the best ballpark in the world. better than any MLB park... Jerry's World won't even compare.

if you disagree, you're a *****.

With the mountain range in the background, it's hard to beat Isotopes Park in Albuquerque for scenery and overall shinyness. Granted, it was built for the AAA team, but UNM uses it too.
