only real; success i've had is by pulling it all up by hand. if it is in patches id throw down some new sod to fill in once out so it cant take back over. you gotta get it out down to the root. you may have some success waiting til winter when it goes dormant and putting out some pre-emergent killer but that stuff is hardy so it could come back anyway.
anything you put out to kill it now will kill the rest of your lawn in my experience. maybe hire some kids to work on the cheap and do the manual labor. it aint fun in this heat and can be tough to pull unless you wait for a good rain. anyway my 2 cents
I got rid of it with a shovel; the roots are shallow and it comes out easily. St. Augustine grass will fill in the bare spot quickly and smother any regrowth.
I !@%# hate dallisgrass. It takes a lot of manual work to pull every strand out by the root, otherwise it'll just come back. However, once it's out, it's a lot easier to keep the new growth away with pre-emergent or a simple pull. I'm hoping my newly established St. Augustine will take over and smother new growth. But I still have areas of bermuda that look like this photo from the internet:
