I want to cut the bottom off of a glass carboy. Plus, I want to eventually drill some holes in it. I found a dril bit that drills glass, but do I need to flush it with water or oil while cutting?
Can I cut glass with a little rock saw, like we use to cut marble tile?
You score it using a straightedge and a glass cutting tool (looks like a tiny pizza cutter, wheel is diamond-coated). Place a straight board under the glass along the line, and another board on top of the glass. Then you ever so carefully snap it along the score line - using one hand to hold down the boards and glass, and the other hand to snap off the cut-off piece.
If necessary, use a Dremel tool or griner with a diamond wheel to smooth down the broken edge after snapping.
Good luck/wear protection/pray/have 911 ready for a one touch call/have a tourniquet nearby. . ..
You need to score the glass, heat the score (GENTLY), then insert a weighted object on a string to tap on the scored line, then a quick hit with a rubber mallet should break the glass (along the scored line) or into a million pieces precariously close to major arteries.
My advice, if you can pay some else to do this job - pay them.
