How did Rudy Fail So Miserably?

Rudy was pretty much anointed by the media and talk radio when he announced early on, how did he fail so miserably?

I never thought he had a chance due to his personal issues and the fact he used 9/11 as his platform, but I never expected such failure.

There's been more voter interest in the early primaries than there usually is. His strategy took him out of the public eye as everyone was weighing the other contenders.

And with the subprime mess/tightening credit/recession talk, people became more concerned with the economy than the threat of terrorism.

Terrible strategy and finishing behind Ron Paul didn't help. By the time he got to his state (Florida) no one was paying attention.

Three things:

• When he laid out of the Iowa and New Hampshire races, he was never part of the dialogue for well over two months.
• He thought McCain would be out by now and he is not. There is a high overlap between McCain and Rudy supporters. When McCain hung on, he took votes from Rudy.
• The issues have changed – Rudy was the security candidate, trumpeting his 9/11 “Experience” (which I never understood). Well now, the economy has supplanted Iraq and Terror – and he does not have a story there. Nobody buys that Rudy has economic experience as a mayor.

All I know is several months ago the guy was all over the news. He was billed as the front-runner. Then he vanished. On TV talking heads programs, I saw Huckabee, McCain, Romney. It was as if Rudy dropped off the face of the planet. Too bad, because I kinda liked him, to be honest. Evidently he is a major ******* in his personal life, but professionally speaking his resume is impressive. Or was impressive. Doesn't matter now.

The farther Rudy gets from 9/11/01, the more he looks like the dirtbag he is. That Rick Perry endorsed him only makes the collapse more enjoyable.

With 20/20 hindsight, the strategy appears flawed. However, IMO, his strategy would have been genius...if McCain had not resurrected himself. A variable few could have predicted. McCain sucked up all of Rudy's oxygen. Remember we were talking about McCain dropping out? But as it stands, the strategy now looks foolish.

I'd like to see his national polling after the story about the use of state security while conducting an affair. That story hit his image hard.....not that he was squeeky clean before...

Two peas in a pod.......

With 2 other strong Republicans doing so well, the media didn't have to focus on Guiliani. The cheapest advertisement is momentum and getting your name mentioned by political analysts.

Hard to believe that McCain or Romney will have the Republican nomination. 9 months ago I would have said that Guiliani or Thompson were going to be in this situation

I'd rather have my fascists grow in office rather than knowingly elect them right out the gate.

How long has Perry been on the Giuliani Titanic anyway. Seems like he just jumped in to support him recently - great eye for the future there, 38%... Wonder if any of the other candidates are going to stop by and pick him up off his little lifeboat?
