J'Covan made a huge mistake. Whoever told him leaving for the draft was a good idea should probably never give advice to anybody ever again.

I don't think it's a matter of bad advice or selfishness or whatever. I think it's a real fact that he needs a D-League or FA (or even foreign) job to support his real family. Even if he's only pulling 48K, it's still a bare amount on which to support himself and child.

D League only pays 12-24K per yr & he obviously wouldn't be starting at the top of the scale. Once again, had he come back and led the team to any kind of success he would've been drafted next year which would provide some real security for his family. He needs a new advisor.

Doubtful whether staying a year would help his draft status. He's basically hit his ceiling in ability.

Well, thats where we disagree 11. Ever since he announced I have been convinced:

1- He would not get drafted.

2.With him on the roster, we have the potential to make some noise next year.

3. If so, he would be the undisputed face of that team.

4. As such, his draft status would soar.

IOW, I think you are completely overlooking the hype factor of the draft, which is a HUGE component. I have no doubt that JCB is more talented than some of the players that got drafted last night, but his hype factor is so low right now that this was a horrible decision, & since he indeed was not drafted, the odds are beyond tremendous that he would've been rated higher with a good/great senior season under his belt.

If he sticks on the main team in Miami, I will stand corrected.

Still, I also would've liked to have seen the Mavs sign him this morning & I do wish him the best.

Barnes evidently lets these guys make their own decisions without having a session with them and objectively breaking down their game in a NBA way.

I'll disagree about the latter part you stated (without objectively showing them stuff), but it's definitely clear that Barnes lets the players make the decision. As it should be... coercion to stay at Texas is petty and makes him seem like a bully. He's no John Thompson, and I'm kind of glad about that.

There's no way we pull in kids like Aldridge and Durant if Barnes isn't who he is. And sure, they left early. But it also put us on the map in terms of getting players. We've made some strides with Lanier back to help us build around the superstars. I still think Brown made the right decision for him and will probably catch on somewhere... most likely a foreign league. PJ Tucker has more money lying around than I do, and he's become a foreign star in different leagues.

I know for a fact that Viperhorn is wrong. I know this because I have had conversations with two players within an hour of said meeting taking place and another the day after. It is something Rick takes seriously and if somebody has their mind made up ahead of time he is not going to sway them another way. He just gives them the facts and his opinion on what he thinks is best for them, hopefully they listen.

After missing on my predictions about C.J Miles, Avery Bradley and Cory Joseph, I gave up on trying to guess where players would, or wouldn't go.

Having said that, it seems Brown could possibly have improved his status to a second round pick by coming back and continued working toward a degree at the same time.
