Just a little bit of speculative talk, but KU has a very important three game stretch coming: home to Tennessee tomorrow, home to Siena Tuesday, and at Michigan State Saturday. Reason being is that they have absolutely no good win so far this year. Their best is a 19-point win in KC against a very mediocre Washington team with their losses to Syracuse, a blowout at Arizona, and an awful loss to a UMass team that just got shallacked at Houston and already lost to powerhouses Jacksonville State and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
We all know how weak the Big XII North is this year, so any loss, with a possible exception at Missouri, is a bad one. They play at Baylor and Oklahoma and get A&M and UT at home.
All told, this will probably be a very interesting two months ahead for the defending champs. Could Texas put a big nail in their NCAA hopes in Lawrence in early March? Would that not be sweet?! KU's current RPI is in the 90s. It may just be early January, but if I'm a KU fan I wouldn't see a tourney bid as a given, even with last year's title. They could really use a nice win tomorrow over the Vols.
It's quite nice that UT hasn't had to worry about this too much for a long time, with the only exception being '04-'05 until Buckman beat up OSU in Stillwater in the last regular season game.
