Autonomous cars already driving in Cali

The possibilities that go along with this are insane. If this were perfected and made massively available, just imagine what could be done. With a much lower risk for crash, smaller cars with less protection for more efficient cars. More efficient driving by a computer for less gas consumption. No more DWI's, no more speeding or running red lights eliminating a huge burden for cops. No need for truckers lowering the cost of anything transported by a truck (everything basically). Cars that can be summoned, no more bus drivers. some of this stuff is still way off in the future, but it seems like we might be able to buy an autonomous car or semi-autonomous car pretty soon.

That's similar in concept to a fusion powered car: sure it's awesome, it does little or nothing to address the real problem. In this case, that problem is our over-reliance on the automobile and need for better mass transit and city structures that will actually make use of it.

it might only make a dent in energy reliance, but, cmon, no more idiot drivers, much much fewer accidents, and the ability to sleep or text or do whatever you wanted while not having to drive
