Houston's Best Burger (post-Marathon)

Need suggestions for the best place, inside the Loop or near Galleria, for my post Marathon burger, rings and beer on Sunday.

Right now, my support crew is calling for Pappas Burgers, which I hear is fine, I've just never been there.

Can anyone either confirm Pappas, or make other suggestions?

Thanks.

Christian's Tailgate. Midtown at Pierce and Bagby

Beck's Prime at the Memorial Park Golf Course or the location near Westheimer and Augusta (across from Pappas Burger).

Christians blows the others out of the water as does Lankfords. Papas Burgers should be great. They get their meat from the discarded ends of the prime beef from the steakhouse next door. Somehow though it just isn't great at all. It is just okay.

If you want old school greasy, ultimate burger satisfaction: Christians totem on I-10/Washington or Lankfords. Another good one is Goode Company Taqueria (Kirby south of 59) for mesquite grilled burgers.

Pappas is always a decent choice - that chain can cook.

Go to Becks if you feel like being overcharged - like Red Robin.

If you're ever heading south toward Galveston pull into Tookies in Seabrook and get the 198 or Ice House Special and you can thank me later.

I love me some burgers.

Ziggy's Healthy Grills has great burgers and thin, delicious rings. If you're up for it, you can eat a Kangaroo or Ostrich burger, too.

The place to go on Sunday is Christians Tailgate in Midtown. Watch some NFL Playoff's, sit outside, beers, burgers, babes, forgeta bout it..

I think Christian's tailgate is about 5 x's better than Langford's.

But either of those options is better than Pappas burgers. Unless you want to pay $11 for some big pile of crap that is supposedly a hamburger, then go to pappas.

I believe Langford's is closed on Sunday but it is probably my favorite. Christian's is a damn good burger. I personally think Beck's Prime is good too.

I'm sad that Otto's closed - the barbecue was very average, the burgers were great.

I agree with HoustonHorn, Lankfords is probably my favorite greasy damn good burger. But not sure if they're open on Sundays or not. I would say Pappas Burger is definitely top 5 in city, so you can't go wrong there.

Serious burger lover here.

Pappas is decent and probably a good choice for a burger and beer. It's at the upper end of the burger spectrum.

Personally, I like the other end, so I'm gonna throw out Southwell's at San Felipe and Fountainview. (Cliffs and the eternal Fountainview cafe are also good choices within a block from there.)

I also like Bubbas Burger Shack on Westpark just outside of the Loop.

I'm having a Pavlovian response just thinking about it.

Yeah, I gotta say that Fuddrucker's suggestion caught me a bit off guard.

Glad to see the Southwell's suggestion -- definitely the best burger in my part of town. One other would be Bubba's on Washington (though not sure it beats Christian's).

utexas -- Might give Bubba's another shot, the place just changed hands in the last 2-3 months. Much better TVs, service has improved, etc.

oh yeah, the only reason why i went there a second time was because christian's is closed on sundays and i learned that on a sunday afternoon when i was craving a burger. so i went down to bubba's.

Well, like an idiot, I somehow failed to properly hydrate and fuel myself for the run, so although I finished under my goal of 4 hours and bested my prior marathon time by 1 min. 22 sec., I was a zombie after the race, and for the first time in forever, had to shun the post-run feast due to an unsettled stomach.

Since the family was familiar with Pappa's, that's where they chose to go, where I just sat and stared blankly at their baskets full of burgers and rings, wondering why in the hell can't I muster up the fortitude to eat?

But thanks for the suggetions. I've made notes, and will definitely try these other places in the near future.
