Houston - tree trimmers

I've got this one branch that is up leaning against my gutter... of course I have a 3 story house so thing is way outta my reach to cut it down...
anyone know of any decent tree trimmers or lawn guys that have a ladder long enough and tools to do this job? it shouldn't take but 20 minutes total to set up the ladder.. get up there and cut the thing down...

if you ever see a crew working in your area, just stop and talk to one of the workers. they usually do it after they finish up and pocket the money themselves. I do this all the time and it saves me a ton of money instead of calling a tree company.

I learned this trick from my dad. when he has to have branches trimmed or minor work done around the house he goes up to construction sites and talks to the workers. they do the same kind of work as if you went through their bosses.

that is a damn good idea... and there are tons of houses being built around me... i think I'll drive around this weekend and see what I can muster up...

I had a tree company come out recently to do an estimate to trim the trees around the house and clean out the dead wood. They wanted $3,700. I went ahead and just decided to do it myself.

I'm telling you, anytime you want to do any sort of house work get a free estimate from a company. then drive around until you see a crew working at a house. drive up and ask them if they are willing to do the job you want for half of what you were quoted (or sometimes less if you provide the materials).

you get the same quality of work that yo'd get from a company for a fraction of the cost. the workers get paid more than they would by doing the same job for their bosses. it's a win-win situation.

two years ago a friend bought a house in one of those new cookie cutter neighborhoods in katy. he wanted to extend the back concrete slab on his patio. he tried to go through the builder who gave him all these ridiculous excuses (had to be cleared by the deed board, had to get a permit, etc.) until they finally told him they could send someone out there in two weeks for $3,500!!!!

later that night we went up to a guy that was pouring a drive way at another house and asked him how much he would do the job for. we drove him to the house, the made a couple of measurements. told him how much concrete, mesh and boards he needed and agreed to do it for $400. he came out the next night after he got off work with another guy and finished it in two hours.

Trees, Inc.

I know these guys and they do a good job. Just one thought - they are insured and bonded. Not that you should consider the repercussions of hiring someone that might fall from a 3-story ladder on your property and not be properly insured just because they happen to want to moonlight a little.

Have a nice day.
