houston racing shop

I've got a mercedes slk230 and just got some new tires on em. The car vibrates over 60 mph.. had em balanced by 2-3 different places already with the same results. Talked to the previous owner of the car and he had the same problem. He had to go to a racing shop to get the tires balanced correctly. Does anyone know of a good racing shop here in Houston that works on audi, porsche, mercedes, etc?

Thanks..

WTF?

What is a "racing shop" going to do that a run-of-the-mill shop isn't?

True the tires perhaps?

sounds like your suspension or something else is jacked. there's no reason that car would need anything special to have it balanced correctly.

have you talked to a MB dealeship about it? Luxury car owners are notorous for complaining about every little problem so they would know how to correct it.

i think it has something to do with balancing the tires with the tires on the car. Almost all places balance the tires off the car. Only race shops balance tires with them on the car.

I did take it to the MB dealer and all he could say is something like "we don't recommend using Goodyear tires on Benzos". I'm going back to get an official readout on the road force test tomorrow morning from the dealer also.

Ahhh,

That makes sense. You have a bad rotor perhaps?

I'd figure out which of the 4 tires need the most weight, and change out that rotor. I'll bet the problem would go away then.

my grandfather used to collect mopars, and raced them. I remember him telling a similar story about one of his cars rattling after a certain speed. no amount of balancing helped...then he decided to check the brakes. turns out one of them was not fully disengaging. so there's something else you should add to the check list.
