Houston Guy Gets Free Beer For Life

I was wondering when we were doing the story if it was even legal to give away free beer. Any legal TABC experts out there?

Is that like all he can drink every day for the rest of his life?

He's a pretty young guy. The bar probably would have come out ahead just buying a new bus.

I think it's going to be a beer each time he goes in. They are also talking about putting a plaque on the wall or maybe one of the barstools.

Thanks for your interest guys, because of you and The Buzz website, we are getting a ton of hits. I thought this was a cool story to share. Never underestimate the power of Hornfans

Cool story, but I'm a little curious about the possibility that it was staged (not the news story itself, but the entire incident).

That bus would have little to no practical value to a thief unless perhaps it was scrapped for parts, which it obviously wasn't since it was left at the mall. And If the thief did indeed drive it to the mall to shop, it seems the obvious move would have been to wait for him to return so he could be arrested, since it was just a matter of time before he finished shopping. Unless, realizing the lack of practical value, he ditched it at the mall, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense either unless he intended for it to be found so it could be returned to the bar, which again suggests the possibility that the theft was staged. Or there simply was no “thief”.

If you think about it free beer for life (assuming it's limited to one beer per visit, as suggested) to one individual who most likely wasn't a customer to begin with isn't exactly a huge expense, particularly compared to the amount of publicity received from something like this. And if he buys just one additional beer or brings one friend with him, the bar comes out ahead.

All the "hoax" stories in the news lately (protest sign girl, polygamist sect, abortion chick) might have me a little more skeptical than usual, but the more I think about it the more likely it seems that this was staged by the bar as a publicity stunt.

We were worried about it being staged, but once the police are involved, it's hard to stage this. That's when you get into filing a false police report, and your little hoax gets you into trouble. While I was shooting it, the whole time I had my BS detector on, this passed it. The backstory is a disgruntled employee who got fired is the guy they think stole it. They have him on camera taking the keys, and his jacket was found in the bus after it was stolen.

This story sounds like PURE TORTURE to me.
You see I have arthritis and I have to take a couple of medications which makes it to where I can't have any alcohol. (That is unless I want to competely fry my liver.)
I am so glad I didn't win free beer for life. It would hurt me to see that delicious nector building up in my fridge with me unable to consume it.

The guy who found the bus didn't want the beer, he received a cash reward instead. The owner said the guy needed money more than beer. Turns out he had some "legal issues." i.e. warrants. The story just got cooler.
