Houston Burger - Christian's Totem or Tailgate?

Choosing a burger joint shouldn't be so confusing..........

Was passing through Houston yesterday and all I could remember was "Christian's". So we dropped in on "Tailgate".

Good burgers but IMHO, not worthy of "fall on your knees and worship at the Alter of Burgerdom good". Plus the place was infested with douche-bags.

So if I was looking for a World-Class Houston Burger, was I supposed to go to Totem?

i consider the burgers at totem and tailgate to be equivalent, the only difference between the two being the atmosphere and clientele. that, of course has a lot to do with their respective locations.

im pretty sure that totem has changed its name to tailgate now to reflect its association with the more popular midtown location.

i wouldnt say that their burgers are the absolute best inside the loop, but i think they are in the conversation, and get points for being very consistent.

Yes. The original Totem is now Tailgate. The burgers are the same, or at least they should be.

You want a good burger in Houston? Otto's Super Burger (double meat, double cheese --- but still reasonably sized) at Otto's. I think one of their secrets is that they put on the toppings on the bottom of the meat instead of the top.

I ordered the double at Totem the first time I went there. Big mistake, even for a 6' 5", 250# guy with a big appetite.

I dined at Otto's only last week. Thank God they are still there. Perhaps not the best, but pretty danged good!
