House Park now has Field Turf

...and I'm a little sad. What's next, astroturf at Wrigley Field?

One of the greatest games I've ever seen at any level was an absolute mud bowl at House Park a few years ago. It had rained hard all week and rained lightly throughout the whole game. Austin High was mainly a passing team, but they found it easier to run. San Marcos almost never passed out of their Wing-T, but they busted a couple of long TD passes. Everyone was so muddy it was sometimes hard to who was on what team. Tied at 21, San Marcos got the ball back with about 6:00 left in the game, drove down to about the Austin 20, converting a couple of 4th downs on the way, and called time with less than a minute left. Their kicker calmly walked out on the field in a clean uniform and drilled a FG to win it.

Yeah, it'll be different. When they took up the old sod they let former players and alumni have squares of it to keep for their memories.

I remember officiating a game there about 6 years ago and there were fire ant mounds on the goal line. Felt bad for the kids that fell in it.

I thought the "grass" looked unusually green when I drove by about a week ago...

Doesn't make House Park any less of a dump. We hated going there for games.

The manufacturer's website looks plenty reputable.
The Link

Westlake's turf is from SRI, not exactly luxury, but more status quo. The "deluxe" makers FieldTurf and RealGrass

I have great memories from House Park. In 2001 we (Bowie) had a showdown with Austin High. Austin High was supposed to have this "new, amazing offense". They were supposed to be unstoppable. We ended the 1st half with a hail mary touchdown and my boy Justin returned an INT for 102 yards for a touchdown and we walked out of there with a 63-28 victory.

Sorry TexLaw...they are going to replace the existing turf with the "new and improved" field turf we are discussing on this thread, unless they take a complete about face.

It's not Field Turf...that would have been too expensive. AISD went with something like Pro Grass and wound up with roll widths of 4.7 yards instead of 5 yards. Same thing happened at Schertz Clemens & the replacement turf had to be rush shipped.
Would have made first downs easier to make
