I used to eat at Houlihan's frequently many years ago when there was one near the Galleria in Houston. I just read somewhere that they are opening a one in Austin across the street from the Convention Center at like 3rd and Trinity.

If I remember correctly from Houston and I think I grabbed a quick bite in New York there, its kind of like a nicer Bennigans/Friday's and the like.

I always remember the atmosphere being pretty cool, but it has been many years. Will be interested to see what happens with it.

i agree on the chains overpopulating the convention center area, but it seems to me that is what downtown is becoming. Why no Austin originals have located themselves down there is quite a mystery to me.

Even with the new AMLI every place opening up there is pretty much just a copy of what the developers have done elsewhere, sans Jo's.

Moonshine and Dona's are representing though.

ate here the other day, was thoroughly unimpressed. the first two menu items i ordered they were out of.

the place does have a pretty cool outdoor rooftop bar though, its a great place to watch sports.

...with fire sauce and jalepeno poppers. Maybe some extreme nachos?

haha

anyway, I won't eat there again for dinner, but the place is pretty cool inside and seems to be a decent downtown lunch spot for the business crowd. All in all it meets the needs for the conv center crowd and business traveler crowd.

Dining at Houlihan's is all about the flare the servers wear... people can get a cheeseburger anywhere... they go to Houlihan's for the flare.

AMLI Downtown has been open for quite a while. Cool floorplans, extremely expensive, very impressive leasing staff last time I was there. I just don't get many customers that want to shell out the kind of loot that they ask for their apartments.
