hotel recommendation: nawlins

Will be there in a couple of weeks with the GF.

Any non-Motel 6 suggestions of a good place to stay? Anyone had an extraordinarily good experience?

How much you willing to spend? Cause the Ritz Carlton is probably one of the better experiences in N.O.

I was there this past weekend and stayed at the International House. booked through hotels.com...very reasonable. pretty nice place -- no complaints.

Went in the last month and stayed at the W in the Quarter. Nice and comfy, windows that open outside, plasma tv. great bed, great shower, nice little pool where people hung out. Little courtyard on Sat morning with lady serving coffee and Bloody Mary's. Cajun cafe across the street for good breakfast. Would do it again.

I've always been a huge fan of the Royal Sonesta. Debauchery right out the front door.

Maison Perrier. Laid back B&B in uptown/garden district, with easy access to Magazine St. and the Quarter.

Use Bookit.com

They carry the hotels that are just being remodelled and reopened, so they have good deals.

The St. James hotel is very very nice.

Also, if you use Bookit, I suggest the Mystery Hotel.

Last time we went to NoLa, we booked this and it was the Astor Crown Plaza that's right on Canal and Bourbon street.

Double check, but last time I booked through Book It I could cancel the Mystery hotel after I booked it.

Priceline. Do your research first and you can get a great deal. Any of the 4* hotels are great, including in the business district.

Stayed at the Astor Crown Plaza during Hurricane Ike. Personally, I would not stay there again. They were in the middle of a remodel and things were in a little disarray. I've also stayed at the Monteleone and Chateau Sonesta (don't know if its still there). My favorite has been the Monteleone. They have a cool bar area.

If you are on a budget, you CANNOT beat the Dauphine Orleans. It's in the Quarter, one block from Bourbon. Get a room in the carraige house (?). It's across the street from the main hotel. You enter from the street right into a classic French Quarter courtyard. It feels more like a private home than a hotel. They some suites in this building too that are VERY spacious and reasonably priced. I stayed there a couple weeks ago for about $130/night. A bit more for a suite.

Monteleone is one of my all time favorites too.

If you're tall (like me) and appreciate a large bed, try the Hotel Manaco. It's downtown, but an easy walk to the Quarter. They have special rooms called "tall rooms" that seem like they are designed for NBA centers. The bed was HUGE, the shower nozzle high, etc. I loved this place.
