Hotel Galvez

Has anyone stayed here? I've booked a trip to Galveston for a couple days and this is where we're staying (the fiance and me). Also, what are some things we need to fit in while we are on the island? Planning on hanging at the pool one afternoon, because it looks nice. Then planning on hitting the Stand to do a little shopping. Maybe the IMAX at Moody Gardens...Any suggestions or comments on the hotel would be helpful?

thanks in advance.

It's a very nice but older hotel. I have not stayed there over night in some time but I've had brunch their brunch within the past 5 years. I like it a lot. Very quaint and personal service oriented.

Went to Galveston recently but stayed at their 'sister hotel,' Tremont House. It was very nice. If you go up to the Strand, stop in their bar for a drink. If you go in the evening, take it up to their rooftop patio for a nice breeze and cool view.

Eat dinner at the Saltwater Grille.

If you like beer, Murphy's Pub near the strand had a decent selection. It got too smoky for us when busy, but the local-boy bartender bore a vague resemblance to Judge Reinhold and wielded absolutely award-winning sarcasm. He was a badass.

That's all I've got.
