Hot Springs, AR - need advice

We've got a three-month-old, so our vacation options this year are limited in terms of time and budget. I was looking at Hot Springs, Arkansas as a possible destination, since it's scenic and offers things to do but is only a 5 or 6-hour drive from Dallas. We'd probably drive up on a Friday morning, stay Fri/Sat night and drive back Sunday afternoon.

Anyone been there who can tell me if it's worth the trip, and if so, where to stay and what to do? We'd like a hotel that's close to downtown, but not too pricey and accommodating for guests with an infant.

I've been there a couple of times, once at a nice bed & breakfast and once at the "famous" Arlington Hotel, which is getting a bit frayed around the edges, but is still a nice hotel. There's not a lot to do in town but walk and window-shop, so it's up to you to decide if that's good for your family. They have a very good Italian restaurant, and a fun German place as well, but both are towards the other end of town from the Arlington. (You could make it on foot, but with a kid, I don't know.)
