That said, the whole fed involvement in this steroid thing reeks of wasteful energy and money. If those guys wanted to cheat and ruin their bodies, so what? Aside from displaying poor role model behavior, they didn't break any laws, so why was the gov't involved in the first place? Stupid.

Clemens probably lied -- just as McGwire, Palmeiro and Bonds did -- but at the end of the day, does the average American want the federal gov't spending millions investigating that they used in the first place? I don't. MLB has shown it can police the issue and should've been since the beginning. They weren't, but full-blown federal probes/hearings shouldn't have been the impetus to bring about change.

The Feds do not like to be lied to.

It was a case to underscore that, nothing more IMO.

And he was an idiot and arrogant to put himself in that position.

I agree OUE, sure seems like we need those Fed dollars lots of other places.

Pro sports oversight should be done & paid for by the respective sanctioning body (through ticket revenue) not by our tax dollars.

The Feds got lied to in an investigation process that should never have been subsidized by tax dollars. Looks like they (politicians) created a need that did not exist........color me shocked.

The leagues were not doing anything about it, so the feds had to step in. And don't lie to the Feds, especially if you are a celebrity. The coverup is worse than the crime.

How was this somehow something the majority of tax payers were injured to the extent to justify the enormous cost of money & time to investigate and prosecute?

Oh I see it's illegal....and no charges for illegal drug use were filed? So explain to me how the enormous cost for one such case, at the federal level no less, was not further justified with such charges?

Sorry, but the cost/benefit of these type of grand stand plays by Congress is not justified. Use of funds and manpower that are sorely needed for other things.
