Is that place still around? If so, it is an allsome bar. Growing up in Austin, that place was greatness for serving me underage. I played pool with a hippy, a redneck and a gay dude one time. Great jukebox and the writing on the bathroom walls was sweet.

It is still there. I'm not sure I'd call it "allsome", but I did take defensive driving next door and then some of the class went next door for a brew or two once the class was done....

Real people real beer. They sponsered a softball team of mine once . After the game was great there. Man those were the days.

p/c, that place still reeks of smoke because no one really sneaks a drag or two. i haven't been in a couple months, but after the ban liability shifted from the bar to the patron, they didn't care again. i saw people openly lighting up in there.

Was just there last week. People still smoke which sucks, but oh well. There were some MILFs sitting around dressed nicely looking for some company. If I remember correctly, they only serve the typical beers and only from a bottle. I suppose it is awesome if you are with the right company... but otherwise, it wasn't too exciting.

I think of that Reckless Kelly song every time I pass by the Horseshoe..........

Never been. But been to the Spoke basically across the street many many times.

'Horseshoe Lounge.' (Cleaves/Poston)

Ricky got the quarters for the table and broke
While I pulled hard on the sorrow and smoke
Raising up my bottle I looked for a chance
As you set your glass down on the bar with a glance at me

Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
Shuffleboard and neon light
Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
Cigarettes and whiskey tonight

Ricky said 'She's out of your league, let her go'
As I watched you pick your partner on that old dance floor
I know it didn't work out the first time we tried
But I'd do anything to have you by my side again.

Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
Peel the label off a miller light
Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
I sit here thinking 'bout you every night.

Were you the one who faltered
Was I the one who strayed
Maybe God left us out of the plans he made

So here's to missed beginnings and things that never start
For these are the ghosts that run around in my heart
When I see that where I'm going isn't where I want to be
I get the urge to look you up see if you would come
and meet me

Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
Hey Buddy have you got a light
Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
One more and I'll be alright

Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
Peel the label off a Miller Light
Down at the Horseshoe Lounge
I sit here thinkin' 'bout you every night.

Ricky got the quarters for the table and broke
While I pulled hard on the sorrow and smoke

Yeah, he has. Maybe Karen Poston is his secret weapon.

I don't know what the Reckless Kelly reference was about. Do they have a similar song?

Reckless Kelly "Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah". Cross Canadian Ragweed has covered the song but RK wrote it. Great song and honestly a great band too.

Well I pulled myself in my car
I drove it on down to the bar
But they wouldn't let me in, 'cause I ain't a movie star
So I went to the Horseshoe on Lamar

The bouncer threw me out at two
And I didn't know what to do
So I picked up the phone and I called guess who
But the call block wouldn't let me through

That's a true statement, but not about this song. I'm pretty sure I read an interview where he said he'd never actually been to the Horseshoe Lounge when he wrote that song.

Horseshoe Lounge is pretty rad. I really miss that place after moving out of south Austin. Weak selection, inconsistent service, cleaning up after yourself and a clientele on loan from the sixth circle of hell. I love that joint. Seriously.
