horns vs. spartans

What a physical game so far. Just a few observations. First off what the hell happened to connor atchley? Where did his skill set go? Also these announcers are freaking awful, the play by play guy acts like he has tourrets syndrome on every michigan st. basket, really annoying. Also we need to get abrams more involved because like him or not, he can score and the rest of our team is offensively challenged at times. Go horns and lets steal another tough one.

M State has played a great game. Sucks that we haven't scored in almost 4 minutes. Also, who are the folks wearing burnt orange sitting on their asses when the band plays Texas Fight?

Most of this season from what I've seen the players don't have a keen sense in how to make a good pass.

Starting to wear on my emotions.

Horns did not play well against Texas State or Texas Southern, last part of this game they did not look that good either.

Wow, Abrams passes up on the game winning shot. Lead almost entire 2nd half and Texas blows it in final 2 minutes. Classic barnes coaches team making bone headed decisions down the stretch.

we gave this game away. MSU did well to take advantage, but we played liked crap. this one is on barnes at the end.

I only got to watch about half of the second half. In New York they were showing the Duke blowout. But this team just gives me fits.
My girlfriend went to Carolina, so I've seen them play 5 games or so, and we aren't even on the same level. They make us look like a high school team.
I've enjoyed Texas rise on the bball court as much as anyone, but this team is hard to watch.
Even in the Villanova game we didn't look like an elite team.
Anytime Abrams has an off night, and every shooter has an off night, we just can't put points on the board.
Maybe I'm just overreacting.

Last two possesions of the game were having Mason shoot a 3-pointer? WTF?

The last 5 minutes was painfull to watch.

Tom Izzo has out coached Barnes more than once, the only way Barnes can beat Tom is with far superior talent and even then I'm thinking he needs some luck.

Since Barnes made the mistake of telling James he is a shooting forward, our offense sucks. We are a one man team. Stop AJ and beat Texas.

James was lost on that last defensive possesion ending in a Spartan 3. From the moment Michigan St inbounded the ball I was wondering who Damion was guarding only to discover his man alone in the corner for a 3.

after the texas state game i said that we just aren't a very good team, meaning top shelf caliber type, and stand by that. when will we ever cover three point shots?

What was up with the lame crowd? Very pedestrian. I saw burnt orange in the stands but sure couldn't hear them. The game was played in Texas but it might as well have been in Detroit!

You guys act like Michigan State is in the same league as Texas State. That is a real team with some real athletes coached by a Hall-of-Fame coach. And I will bet you we still advance farther than them come March. Quit whining.

Michigan State has recruited well. They've got 7 guys that ranked in the Natl top-50 out of high school and 10 ranked top-100. This makes them the #4 most talented team in the country from a recruiting standpoint (considering only what is left on campus). Texas has only two players ranked in the top-50 out of high school: Damion James and Gary Johnson. We only have 5 that were ranked in the top-100 - ranking us #21 overall this year.

Here's their roster and their recruiting ranking:
Delvon Roe - #10, 2008
Marquis Gray - #29, 2004
Durrell Summers - #29, 2007
Raymar Morgan - #34, 2006
Kalin Lucas - #34, 2007
Chris Allen - #38, 2007
Tom Herzog - #47, 2006
Isaiah Dalman - #67, 2006
Korie Lucious - #87, 2008
Draymond Green - #96, 2008

All that and we still should have beaten them.

good research lazy....not whining just saying that we aren't a very good team, playing too erratically and without any decipherable gameplan. early exit in march if they don't find some combination to get it goin'

I was at the game. Our crowd was somewhat disappointing. They cheered for the usual stuff (made baskets, defensive stops, big rebounds, etc.), but not much volume for "Give 'em hell...". It got better and louder down the stretch w/ some good volume for "Texas...Fight". As far as the neutrality, there's a reason for that. This game was the front end of a double-header, A&M/LSU was the second game. Most of their fans who showed up during the 2nd half were predictably rooting for Sparty, who had a small number of rowdy fans there.

For most of the game Johnson and James did a good job taking up the slack caused by A.J.'s lack of production. Abrams was just not able to get away from the MSU guards (#1 Lucas & #5 Walton, I think), and that made a big difference in the game. Gary Johnson is really hitting his stride, he's gonna be a beast.

Barnes sucks at end-of-game scenarios. When MSU went up by 1 with :19 to go, he should have gotten a timeout after they crossed half-court, instead Mason and Abrams fumbled the ball away. The last play was horrible. We really need another good shooter for end-of-game scenarios, Mason is just too big of a liability. He made an absolute mess of an open shot at the end.

Michigan State fans annoy me. They have a strange need to remind themselves and others what their colors are by yelling "Go green!!!....Go white!!!" back and forth. And I hate when people say "Go State!!!", mostly because of commercials and what not using generic "State" fans.

No point guard is really hurting this year. I saw one time where James took the ball up the court on a break and 300 lb Pittman was running with him. Needless to say it didn't end well.

I can't tell at times who the point guard even is. Too many one handed passes while on the dribble. Defense looks good but offense just seems out of synch.

I don't see a leader on the floor right now. Hopefully they'll find one.
