Horns vs Jayhawks

Down by 7 at half 42-35. These halftime adjustments should be easy. I bet 36 of Kansas 42 points were layups at the rim. Quit turning the ball over, stop the fast break and quit pressing them out beyond the 3 point line where they drive by you for the easy layups.

Tyrese Hunter needs to grab some pine. He's killing us. Back to back turnovers leading to Kansas layups. Down 8, 58-50 with just over 12 to go.

14 turnovers for us so far. Ridiculous.

Down 11 with 3:54 to play. Getting outhustled. I swear 80% of kansas points have been on layups.

We don't have a protector at the rim. Kudos to Bill Self for exposing that. I expect more teams to attack us at the rim after getting exposed there tonight.

Had to go 1-1 on this Kansas road trip and they did. Need to win at home Saturday against a weak WVU and then see about getting a road win in Lubbock. If Horns can go 4-3 or better over these last seven that is 12 plus wins in conference and likely a top 3 seed.

Not a bad loss thanks to that KSU win in Manhattan. Plus Kansas is a top ten team.

I got a kick out of Texas putting an end to the rock chalk chant real quick and they were never able to start it back up as Texas stayed in striking distance to end the game.

ku has not had that many lay ups and dunks all season. Terry’s strategy was let our bigs roam far from the basket to help stop ku’s jump shooters. Especially their leading scorer Wilson. They did stop Wilson but everyone else scored in double figures. It was a failure of a plan.
Our bigs were unable to get back into defensive position to guard the guys cutting to the basket.
This is the first game I’ve seen where Terry was outcoached. This is a game we could have won with an adequate defensive plan.

Just not strong enough underneath. I guess not that many teams are capable of bringing it against the Jayhawks, especially at the Phog.

I don't think there's any harm to our seeding or anything like that, but it shows that opponents can take advantage of our relative lack of muscle, much like Purdue did in the tournament last year.

Didn’t get to watch much of the game, but overall thoughts….tough conference, every team is legit, happy we got the road split, and team has improved from earlier games.

Kansas is a very good 3-point shooting team, especially recently. Just last week, they went 11 for 27 (41%) against KSU. We made a concerted effort to take away their strength, and it worked. They shot 2 for 10 from long range, and pretty poorly from mid-range, too.

When you take away the other team's strength, sometimes they find a way to beat you with something else -- especially when the opponent is good and well-coached, as Kansas certainly is. All you can do is congratulate them.

In any event, losing to Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse by 8 isn't proof that Terry was outcoached. If anything, it proves that he can hang with the big boys.

I really hope you are correct. However, it was obvious from early in the game that KU was getting easy layups and dunks repeatedly. The announcers were somewhat amazed that TExas couldn't/wouldn't adjust to keep our bigs in position to defend the basket.
I predict our defensive strategy changes the next time we play them to a more match up one on one. I am confident the Horns can beat KU on any court.
Also, we have got to cut down on turnovers. That and passing more rather than over dribbling into traps and traffic.

A lot of those dunks and layups early on were a product of live ball turnovers. Texas has won very few games in Phog and I really didn’t think they’d pull it off this season but certainly came close after digging a 14 point hole. I would like to see how that game would have turned out minus all those early turnovers that got the crowd into the game.

I would like to see a change to our starting 5.

we need to stop falling behind double digits and waiting until half time to make adjustments.

i suggest that we try starting Rice over Hunter.
I realize Hunter is serving as a PG, even though he is more of a combo and not as a true point.

Terry needs to stress tough defense from the opening tip.

My opinion, Terry has not made adjustments during play, Beard could. Terry needs half time break to make adjustments.

It baffles me why Hunter’s defense is not matching up to his defensive performance last year at ISU.
Rice would be a huge step up offensively. Hunter seems confused in regards to his role on this team. Carr is the big dog. Maybe Hunter is a bit intimidated. I know Rice is not overwhelmed by the moment, He’s been clutch.
Terry needs to intervene much more quickly when opponents are streaking to big first half leads.
