Horns vs Iowa State

Still fuming about some over the back calls that weren't made, one which helped trigger a run by Iowa St.

Even so we only shot a little over 30% for the game and that aint going to cut it.

Bottom line for this team is that if it cannot score inside, its offense will not work. We don't have pure shooters on this team, at least not yet or not ones that Rick will allow to play for lengthy stretches due to defense/experience issues. Felix is streaky and doesn't need to be a guy jacking up threes like he did against OSU - even though he got hot in that particular game.

This game was an example of why I hope Cam comes back for another year, because he still looks susceptible to double-teams. He's certainly come a long way, but I'm concerned that teams with good defensive skills that focus on clamping down inside are going to pose serious problems for this offense.

This game was a reversal if the Horns against wvu. On offense they were very impatient and failed to make the extra pass instead taking difficult shots and trying to go one on one way to much. Iowa st was a tough matchup on defense as their bigger guards continually posted up especially on Felix and their big men shoot well enough from the outside to delay the help defense. I think part of Felix jacking 3's was from the abuse he was taking on the defensive end.

The horns played really well for about a 8 minute stretch to come back and tie the game, making good passes, Felix hit a couple of threes in the flow, and they played pretty good defense. However, once it was tied they made bad decisions on two or three straight possessions when they could take the lead and then never played that well again.

On a good note, the team shot ft's really well.

The ISU loss bothered me more than KU.

The coach's job is to put the players in a position to succeed. Barnes was thoroughly outcoached by Hoiberg. He had no answers for the ISU interior players stepping out to the perimeter for 3-point shots and ISU guards posting up against Felix and Taylor.

Was Hoiberg's move that unpredictable? Could Barnes not make an adjustment during the half time?

I saw Barnes yell at his players during timeouts. Maybe they did something wrong and deserved some harsh words. But, it was his failure to prepare his players and inability to make defensive adjustments that let the game slip away, IMHO.

We'll be facing resurgent Baylor at home and a difficult road game against OU this week. I hope the team will bounce back and have a good week.
