The team left for Stillwater today around 5pm.Horns will try to snap a two game losing streak against OSU. Horns lost both games last season by nearly identical scores: 64-52 & 64-58. OSU is looking to break their best start to a season (currently 11-0) with a win. Texas will be looking to win their first Big 12 opener since the 2005-06 season.
Projected starting lineups:
Texas:
#1 Empress Davenport, 5-7 Soph. G
#2 Celina Rodrigo, 5-8 Soph. G
#3 Nneka Enemkpali, 6-1 Jr. F
#32 Brady Sanders, 5-11 Soph. G
#40 Kelsey Lang, 6-5 Fr. C
OSU:
#3 Tiffany Bias, 5-6 Sr. G
#4 Liz Donohoe, 6-0 Jr. F
#22 Brittney Martin, 6-0 Soph. G
#31 Kendra Suttles, 6-1 Sr. C
#55 LaShawn Jones, 6-3 Jr. C
OSU has a basic eight player rotation with 7 of the 8 averaging double digit minutes. Texas counters with an 11 player rotation (Chas makes 12).
Jones is their primary inside scorer at 10.2 ppg. Bias (12.9 ppg & 7.5 assists), Donohoe (15.1 ppg and 7.1 rpg) and Martin )15.4 ppg) are the top scorers for OSU. Donohoe (29-62 on treys for a .468%) has taken about a third of the 3s attempted by OSU and made almost 50% of the team 3s. Horns will need to make sure she doesn’t take any uncontested shots from BTA.
Texas is led by Nneka at 14.3 ppg and 8.4 rpg. Chas will miss this game as she recovers from a knee injury.
Look for a fast paced game. Both teams like to run although OSU (81.3 ppg) is doing it a bit better than Texas (73.8). The teams rank one-two in scoring defense (OSU-UT) and 1-3 (OSU-UT) in both FG defense and 3pt FG defense. They are very close in rebounding as well. The battle inside will be tough. OSU will need to contend with Nneka while the Horns will need to stop OSU’s 3pt shooting. Bench play will be important, especially if foul trouble hits either team.
The game is available online through the OSU site if you have a subscription to OSU or to CBS AllAccess. Otherwise, KVET 1300 AM will carry the radio broadcast.
