"Lucky" was a bad choice of words.
What I mean is I was "surprised" we won the Big 12 conference in the first place with our less than stellar hitting.
Perseverance is a good thing though, but I just didn't think Jungman would stay perfect until Omaha, and losing two to Mizzou last week gave me a bad feeling.
But hey, this team has shown the ability to persevere so I'm all in
2005 Texas camne out of losers bracket in much tougher regional and then went on to win the NC. While the Horns made it harder there is no reason Texas shouldnt be able to win 3 straight against Texas State and Kent State. Cole Green this afternoon followed by Milner tonight and Thornhill tomorrow. The whole staff is available today with exception of Jungmann and Stafford and tomorrow its all hands on deck.
Playing out of the losers bracket is not a death curse by any means. IMO, Cole Green and the bats do their job at 1 and we are back in business. Put it this way...if I had to bet on any of the 3 teams left in our regional, my money would not be on Kent St. Not a whole lot of smart bettors would back them either. While it is great to be undefeated, you still have to beat good teams. We get back to Kent St. and IMO we have better than a 50/50 shot of winning two without losing. Beat the scrappy Bobcats and we are fine.
In 1983 we came out of the losers bracket to win it all as well. This is why you have double-elimination, so one bad inning of pitching does not kill you. Now is the time to step up and make it happen.
Hello Texas offense...25 hits on the day. Now playing out of the losers bracket looks like the beast might have awoken. In a one-game winner take all with Kent St., I'm taking our Horns any day. By no means am I putting down Kent St., they have shown to be a real challenge. But now our momentum is steaming and Kent St. got a taste of the potency we have when firing on all cylinders. Have to believe some of that Kent cockiness has worn off and they now know we're a force when clicking. Sometimes a team needs to feel the grim reaper beating on the front door to realize it's time to get their act together and play like there is no tomorrow. One more loss and there isn't for this squad. We get out of the regional alive and it will be a huge lesson learned about how awful it feels to play behind the 8-ball. Win tomorrow and this regional may have been a blessing in disguise. And also facing really strong pitching like Kent St. will definitely help our guys be prepared for more strong pitching. Tomorrow is the only thing that's important at the moment...GO HORNS!!!
Baseball is not a sport to be up against the reaper. Even hitting line drive shots and with your ace on the mound, any given day your monster shots can go right at the fielders and your ace is missing by inches...
Looks like the Horns scared the reaper off with vicious pitching and hot bats. Damn today was impressive. Great lesson learned. Now let's shut down ASU in two and get to the CWS. BTW, Cole Green was pumped today stomping around, throwing hand bag, yelling to team. Now Taylor has a chip and Cole is juiced...lookout Sun Devils, the lead dogs are foaming at the mouth now.
