I've been out of the flying game for about two years now, but am looking at getting back into it on a much more consistant basis. so my old headset is a piece of **** and is falling apart, and I'm looking for a new one.

any recommendations? I'm prob going to spend a fair amount as it will last me for a while, somewhere around $500-600.

Thanks

Can't go wrong with a David Clark or a Telex. I've got two DC's and they both work great. A buddy had a Telex with ANR...sweet. More expensive though. And a bunch of wires everywhere and a battery box. I'm a minimalist for **** in my way in the cockpit and wires drive me insane along with all the other crap you gotta keep up with. You should test-drive that new Bose and tell me how you like it.

I just got the replacement cushion kit for the aviation headset x. they were a ***** to find, and when I did they were backordered for a few weeks. if you buy one off ebay, be sure you get the latest model which has a cigar sized battery/volume control pack.

I've used Peltor in the past. I liked it because it squeezed in from the sides more instead of resting on top of your head. I guess it just depends on where you'd prefer your head to ache. You can buy them at Pilot's Choice in GTU. I think they also have an ANR version now.

When I decided to go ANR I bought a Lightspeed 20-3G. It was awesome. Very cushy and soft. The ANR makes all the difference in piston airplanes. It also had a cellphone and music input jack that would cut-out whenever the aircraft radio recieves a transmission. Nice for long flights. All in all it was the best headset I've owned. The Bose is probably better, but the Lightspeed is half the price. The only drawback is that it's really big because of its huge ear cushions. I sold it when I got a new job because it wouldn't fit in my kit bag with all my other crap.

Now I used the company David Clarks. They are very sturdy and they work well. I find them less comfortable than the Peltor or Lightspeed, but I'm too lazy to lug my own set around.

if any of you guys need a killer price on a headset send me a PM. I occassionally play golf with the president of an aviation accessories supply company. I was just there shooting the **** and saw the telex headset display case. I'm sure I can ask him to order any headset for me at cost.
