.... Just 55 miles this side of Norman on 35 is Ballard's Drive In. They've been in business since 1951 and have "real" cherry limeades, malts, shakes, burgers, rex chicken...... They even fly the Texas flag, because of Ms. Ballard.....transplanted, loyal Longhorn fan!
A must stop for OKC road trips.
Tell 'em I sent ya!

I assume this is the same Ballard that had the Ballard's convenience stores in Austin, one of which was the site of the scene in the movie Dazed and Confused where the guy fired his guy at the fleeing (anti-) heroes? I think there used to be several around town.

We lived on Marathon a block from the Dazed and Confused Ballard's when I went to UT. Driving up to OKC Friday night for the aggy game might have to stop in!

Ballard's is classic hamburger joint that has been up in those parts for years...... not one of the Dazed and Confused Ballard's we had in Austin. To get there from I 35 take the highway 19 exit at Pauls Valley, go right and take a quick juke left to put you over on Ballard Drive, PASS McDonalds, and it's right there. Great food!!!

Hey cm, which direction are you going to follow your directions? N or S? I'm zoomed pretty tight and don't see a Ballard Drive on Streets and Trips.

I understand from my nephews that Mr. Ballard still carhops. He has 2 granddaughters - one that was a backup singer for Bette Midler and has a small role in the Sex and the CIty 2; the other is the wife of a storm chaser.

And now you know.. the ressst of the story.

Hook'em!!!

The backup singers for Bette Middler were The Truly Trashy Ladies, btw. Saw them in Houston back in the day, great entertainment.

Excellent directions, Poke. Mr. Ballard does still carhop at age 88 and is the master cherry limeade maker. This place is a gem! His granddaughter was a backup for Bette the last couple years when she played Vegas...... not one of the back in the day "ladies." No storm chasers in the family, however.

I've stopped at Ballard's in Pauls Valley before, and they do have good burgers and a great fresh-squeezed cherry lime. Definitely not your usual interstate fast food joint like McD's, BK, etc.

mmmmm......cherry limeade.............

I'm going to print these directions and put them in a travel folder. It is really hard to find anything edible while traveling on the interstate.
