Well, he has said in the media that he does not plan to use Texas as a spring-board to a head coaching job and that he wants to be around here for a while. And he did turn down the head coaching job at Southern Miss before he was ever offered the DC job at Texas. So that gives us reason to hope, I suppose.

I don't have any insight into Coach Boom's intent, but while he has moved around a bit, he's certainly no gypsy. I figure, at worst, he's a two year coach here, like his predecessor from Auburn, and perhaps he stays longer, because being defensive coordinator at Texas is probably better than being head coach at some mid-level school. He may not hang around as long as a typical Joe Paterno hire does, but I'm betting on longer than two years.

If you told me right now he is gone it two years, that wouldn't bother me. I figure he will have delivered some great defenses that helped him land his dream job.

Do Tenn or FSU have a history of hiring HCs without HC experience? Considering the length of the present coaches' jobs at those schools, is that even relevant? JoePa IS PSU's coaching history for as long as most of us can remember, so I don't see how any historical trend there applies at all.

My limited perception is that a school willing to employ a first time HC is either mid-level, or former top tier fallen on hard times (OU, NU).

I think the talent, city and money are right as our DC, and he can afford to wait for the right job. But, Tenn or FSU, if offered, would be pretty tough to turn down. Recruiting, money, recent history of winning. Just saying.
