Hooters of Buenos Aires doesn't know WINGS!!

I've been down here (Buenos Aires) for 6 months and I was really hankering for some REAL Buffalo wings. I've had "wings" twice at a place called (Shoeless Joe's) EL ALAMO. They have some kind of sweet/bbq sauce and a little blue cheese. NOT what most people call "wing sauce".So after a meeting near the Hooters of Buenos Aires, I decided to give in and give them a shot.
I got the 10 wing plate. 10 wings for 12 pesos. (That's slightly less than US$4.00) and I got "HOT" for my sauce. That's #3 on a 1 to 5 scale.

Well it came and here were the problems-

1) No celery (or carrots & celery)
2) No blue cheese dressing (nor was I asked if I wanted some)
3)
My "HOT" sauce was (a) Red Pepper flakes/seeds that you put on pizza, (b) MIXED INTO 2-3oz OF COLD BUTTER!!

So let me get this right: A company famous for tits and wings not only doesn't get the sauce right, but they want me to spread BUTTER over my DEEP FRIED CHICKEN WINGS!?!?!?!?!?!

I was disappointed. VERY disappointed. I ended up asking if they had a "red" sauce WITHOUT BUTTER ("Sausa roja sin manteca
" in Argentina). She said yes and brought me something that I think is their hottest sauce. It actually was fairly hot, without butter, and red to red/orange in color. But it WASN'T "wing sauce".

Sometimes the 3rd World isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I don't get it. You are in S. America and upset that they don't understand Buffalo Wings? Why would they? It's about like going to New York City and complaining they just don't understand Tex Mex.

screw the wings, how were the tits?

this beef reminds me of the time we went to an Argentine steakhouse in West Berlin named "BARBEQUE". The place was AMAZING, amazingly bad. Worst steak ever and it was real Argentine Beef, I know because it said so on the menu. There was nothing on the menu that even resembled BBQ, not even any BBQ sauce, just steaks. The waiters were dressed up in this Monty Pythonesque gaucho drag (LAS LLAMAS!!!!) which was hilarious, when the steaks came they were tough and gristly and over cooked even though we asked for medium rare. But the beer was good.

South American Hooters Girls-

My first question was "Donde estan sus hooters?"

I mean, this compay has a reputation to uphold. One girl was kind of cute, but the other two were kind of forgettable.

The best "Hooters girl" was actually wearing a loose pink blouse and was sitting by herself out on the deck near some other people, but definitely By Herself. She looked NOTHING like a girl who would go to Hooters by herself to eat wings and in fact she wasn't eating anything. It was about 4:00pm when I left and I think that she was "looking for work" rather than taking a break from working.

Her enormous fake boobs and blonde hair (a rarity down here) gave me the impression that wings with her would cost a LOT more than 12 pesos.

There is actually some pretty good texmex in brooklyn -- Lobo..owned by some texans. Well, actually the owner was a kicker at OU in the 80's..but they brought in the chef from Maudies to open the restaurants.

man... that place is still open?? I could swear the last time I was there it was closed down... it isn't still over by La Recoleta is it??

and frankly I can't believe how much bad american food you're trying to eat there... ughhh... they do it terribly... though years ago there was a Fuddruckers that was decent... I remember going when I was in HS...

as for empanadas... try a humita one next time if you haven't... they're wonderful... and the glory of the fugaza pizza is something that is sorely lacking in the US...

part of it is the lack of cultural diversity... if all you had to eat in the US was "American" food it'd get pretty old quick... but we've got Italian, Tex-Mex, Chinese, Vietnamese, BBQ, Cajun etc.. etc... all influenced heavily by the various cultures here...
I guess the other side of it is that I eat mainly family dinners when I'm there so there tends to be a greater variety when you cook it yourself... but I can see the restaurant issue from an outsiders perspective.. especially since you're there for so long..

I'm sure by now you've had migas right? those little sandwhiches... grab one of those from a deli/bakery for fast food... choripan should be readily available as a quick bite as well...

can't believe you didn't like the humita... creamed corn empanada... wonderful.... maybe you had a bad one..

and watch.. those pastries may be no big deal to you now.. but once you've left you'll probably crave them... I get tired of them when I'm there, but damnit we've got 2 places in Houston that are Argentine bakeries and I'm constantly jonesing for them..
