Hoopgurlz 2014 Watch List includes several Texans.

Several names from the state are familiar including: Recee' Caldwell; McKenzie Calvert; Olivia Ogwumike; Cienna Rivera; and Brianna Turner.

Wonder if any school besides Stanford has a chance at Ogwumike?

Coach G can't seem to get it done @ Texas so it's not "starting over".

I bet you if a new coach came in like UTFann4Life she would not go 0-11 against Texas A&M the first four years.

Call me crazy but until there are results to justify or support current coach, Texas remains a distant 4th-7th in the conference.

I love how the conversation starts out being about the Hoopgurlz 2014 Watch List, and now it's about who the next coach will be.

Seriously, this gets old...start a new thread.

Ninja, I was in a bit of a spot. Didn't know which comment to go with when this list was posted.

My two choices were:

Depends on who our new coach will be....

Or

I like to read these early lists to learn the names of all the players BU and Aggy will sign...

I still have not seen any objective answers to the question posed to who Texas will sign from the sunshine pumpers.

Lack of success = silence.

Seattle I think that was a compliment to me in there somewhere so thank you. And I'm a he not a she. And you are right, I wouldn't not go 0-11 haha. But that's only because of the caliber of recruits that GG would be leaving behind. If there were a change, I could honestly say that she would be handing over a better program than she inherited. With that being said however, I expect GG to coach here until she retires. Quite frankly due to her past success she's earned the benefit of the doubt from me. If I was CP I wouldnt even be considering a change right now because she making progress in other areas not reflected in the win loss column. What I see a lot of ppl on this board wanting is a quick fix. A quick fix will give you maybe 2 or 3 seasons with 24+ wins and maybe a sweet 16 or two but the program would still struggle. Look at Maryland, or ok state or Nebraska or Ohio st etc. Gail is doing a flat out renovation which will lead to a duke or uconn type run which we can see is almost everlasting. IMO as a coach, there's no other coach in the country that could've come in and done any better facing the same issues that she's had to face. We may have beaten aggy a few more times but our championship cabinet would still be empty and after all, that's the goal.

Lastly, a question to everyone on the board. Looking at the roster, and taking into account their age and the roster of all of our competion what would be an acceptable outcome for next season. I say 24 wins and at least a top 4 big 12 finish with a sweet 16 appearance. Is a bit of a strech from our recent history, but most certainly attainable.

As usual utfan, I really appreciate your insight and willingness to help us see things from a professional perspective, rather than purely emotional (e.g., I WANT TO WIN RIGHT NOW).

That said, I am not as optimistic about next year as you. That is because of the youth of the team overall. The frosh, while aim to be an excellent addition to the team, are still frosh and they will make tons of mistakes. Also, I don't think it is a make or break year for Coach and I agree that she will be here till she retires or SHE decides to leave.

With all that said, I think we will win 20-22 games, finish in the top 4-5 in the B12 and make it to the second round of the NCAAs. Now, the following year is when I will say, "Watch out for Texas!".

Top 4-5 in the Big12 (10)! Second round of Tourney1? Gross. After five years you are saying finishing in the top half of conference is good enough? Being top 32 in the nation? Hooey.

That is all Chris Plonsky talk to me.

@UTFan - yes, it was a compliment.
@Rexy - emotional? At least i'm not content with the 'status quo' of mediocrity that plagues this program!

So now we are making excuses for 2012-2013 in addition to 2011-2012. I don't see how the current staff makes it to 2012-2013 if there is not significant improvement in the 2011-2012 season. This isn't to criticize any lack of effort on anyone's part. It is just recognition that after 5 years Texas has failed to make up any ground against aggy or Baylor.

I sincerely hope Texas has a backup plan should year 5 contribute to the current tradition of mediocrity in WBB. Goestenkors made her own bed.
