Honeymoon destination suggestions...

I know a lot of people who went to Sandals resorts and enjoyed it. However I have no clue how much they cost.

Caneel Bay (St. John)/Little Dix Bay (Virgin Gorda). They're both Rosewood Resorts and really, really wonderful.

Someone I know suggested looking into the Honduras... 3rd hand info is that The Link is nice...

Looks beautiful, nicely priced... anyone have experience?

We went to Jamaica about 5 years ago. It was to an all inclusive place (couples in ocho rios). Price came in right around $3K.

The place was older with some renovations and the rooms were not great or modern, but we knew that going in. Had a patio and a nice view of the ocean. I thought the food was great (after being worried) and the alcohol selection was good and not a problem getting it at all.

We spent a ton of time scuba diving and both got certified while there. At least in Jamaica, you can cut a deal to get the cert stuff cheaper by going around the hotel and just working w/ the dive master.

The side trips from the hotel were a joke and really just designed to get tourists to buy crap after seeing a waterfall or something. We went to one and it was funny to see how many people got intimidated into buying crap made in china (like a wooden giraffe or tribal mask). Just stay in your beach area and chill out. The did have a good time at one of those ‘swim with dolphins’ deals, which we booked separately from the states.

Hawaii is great as well.

Thank UTnBigD.

I'm seriously leaning toward either payabay.com or barefootcay.com and taking into account your suggestions about diving et. al.

How hard is it to learn to scuba on the fly? Roatan is allegedly an extremely nice dive area.

Just learning to scuba is easy. All you have to do for them to take you out is be able to use the breathing regulator and then remove your mask, put it back on and then clear the water in the mask. You do this in a pool. There was one girl that could not do these things and did not get to go out.

To get certified, there is a lot more about calculating diving tables and stuff that was kindof annoying to try figure out buzzed. There were also some specific dives that you had to do with different goals (like sharing a regulator with someone else, some basic navigation using a compass-like deal, etc...). You have to spread it out over a couple of days and you also need to finish a day or so before flying again.

I think there is a thread on Hawaii around here as well with some great suggestions. I have stayed in both resorts and rental cottages and it really just depends on how pampered vs self sufficient you want to be. But either way, you have to try really hard to f'up having a great time in Hawaii.

If you are looking for quiet rather than touristy and full of nightlife, we did Nevis about 10 years ago and had a great time.

We went to the Sandals Whitehouse resort in Jamaica and had a great time. The only thing that sucked was the van (bus on the way back) ride between the airport and resort. It's about an hour and 45 minutes.

They have something going on every night. This is a newer Sandals resort and everyone we talked to that had been to other Sandals resorts said this was the nicest by far.

We spent 4K for 8 days/7 nights. That didn't include the airfare though. Look on their website,The Link they have some specials going on right now.

I was thinking about the British Virgin Islands (BVI) for my honeymoon but the flight time is a killer, even from the east coast. All flights into the BVI have to go through San Juan PR.

My wife and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point, CA for our honeymoon. The view and service are outstanding.

Royal Plantation in Jamaica is one to research.
The Link Arenal Lodge in Costa Rica is nice along with the Tabacon Resort.

Congrats!
