Buying car for son and found in G'town a 2001 s2000 that looks unbelievable. Like it came off the show room.
Anyone have one, or experience with one? While it looks fantastic I have some gnawing feeling that the cars clutch is going. Is the clutch on these cars engagement pretty low down? I have a Boxster as my toy so I think it is an unequal comparison when I say the power seems lacking any comments?

thanks HFans

my dad has an 01 s2000. he has had absolutely no problems with this car. one thing to keep in mind aobut the power is that this car makes almost all of its power above 6000 rpm. if you drive it "normally" it will seem like it is low on power. wrap it up to 9k and you will have some fun. I dont remember the clutch being low to the floor. it does sound like the pressure plate is getting weak. maybe time for a clutch depending on how the previous driver abused it and how your son drives.
my opinion is its a great car. like i said my dad has had no problems. really it hasnt been to the dealer for warranty repairs. he bought it new.

thanks E,
Ended up buying the car and for now very pleased. Did all the clutch tests we knew and some we didn't know but we read about on the web when took for son to test drive and it passed them all.
You are absolutely right about the high end RPM and the effect with the VTEK. When I went alone I did not really challenge it but with son previous owner just handed him the keys and told him and girlfriend to go have fun. He did and we bought it.
Previous owner kept this car immaculate so, unless we really missed something, and that is always possible, very excited out the new toy.

Fun cars, I would love to own one. If you mean that the clutch feels normal, but engages fairly close to the floor, this is a good thing. Clutches get thin over the years, like brake pads wearing, and one way to tell this is if the clutch engages high up, near the end of the pedal's travel.
If you mean the pedal has zero resistance then engages right at the floor, the clutch master and/or slave cylinder could be leaking, check the clutch fluid reservoir, and look for damp spots on those items. This would be a less costly repair than the clutch itself, though.

Thanks AccurateH,
That's actually what I was wondering. You would think that as many clutches that I have had to replace over the years I would remember but I could not remember if got higher or lower (the engagement) as it wore.
Thanks, I think the clutch is fine in the 2k and I just had a bit of adjustment in my driving it because mine in the Box, on the other hand, is scary high - darn.
