I am looking at getting a used ~2002-2004 SUV. I am looking at the Honda Pilot, Toyota 4Runner, or Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder, obviously, is the cheapest of the 3. Any thoughts on those? Pluses & minuses?

Reliability, best vehicle, best resale value, in order:
1) Pilot-excellent
2)4Runner-excellent to very good

3)Pathfinder-pretty good

My wife has a 2004 4-Runner Sport and its been great. It looks pretty nice, and has a lot of power. I enjoy driving it. This isn't the old 4-Runner that had a real rough ride and not much power, they really did a good job.

She also looked at the Honda Pilot, but didn't like it quite as much, and I think the "option packages" are pretty much set so you can't really customize what options you want/don't want.

The 2002 4Runner is the older style (I have a 2001), The engine is more than enough. I compared it to the 2001 Pathfinder and it was no contest. Horsepower is not what to look for, torque is and the 4Runner has plenty with the older engine (something around 220 I think) and with the newer body style it has more, Also I believe the Pathfinder uses premium.

My wife has a 2004 Pilot. I really like it and will not mind driving it once she decides she wants something else. Gas mileage is about 16-17 in the city, which is decent. Overall a good car.

You are talking features on a brand new vehicle, not what it costs to own the vehicle over the years, or the reliability or the resale value. If you consider those factors, my list is correct-Honda, Toyota, Nissan in that order.

i am looking for a used one........... but how much could you haggle a car salesman to on a brand new nissan pathfinder LE with leather? ballpark?

97 - You can buy a vehicle pricing report on-line from Consumer Reports for $15 - $20 (can't remember the exact price). I just bought a 05 Honda Odyssey and offered 4% above dealer cost and nailed it.
