Home Theater - spend extra on spkrs or recvr?

Don't mean to hi-jack, but as long as someone is giving an opinion, what low cost high quality option can I use on downstairs flush mount ceiling speakers?

You need a good balance.
A $150 receiver will make a $3000 speaker set sound like ****, and vice versa.

What is your budget? How will you use your speakers (Music, Video, Type of Music, loud, background, etc.)?

There are percentages that are recommended but I don't always agree with them. In general, there is a lot more variability in speakers and depending on what your listening demands are, we can recommend different speakers to audition. Then based on what we recommend and what you eventually decide upon, we can figure out a receiver to properly drive them.

If you can narrow down what you're ultimately looking for- you may be able to find a deal or two here- Audiogon . I have had pretty good luck with some used gear in the past.

Holy crap, I know ultra high-end audiophiles are a strange breed, but is someone actually going to buy these?

$4250 for USED speaker cables!

Just imagine the sap who paid the $9K retail! At least it comes w/ a pretty box. Seriously though, there's some great stuff on that site & some real bargains, but I'm always shocked at just how far some people will go trying to hear something that isn't there.
