I know a lot of y'all are more up on these things than me, and would appreciate your suggestions.
I'm not a real audiophile, but we moved into a house that was wired for surround sound. There are speaker wires that start from next to the cable jack in the family room, and go thru the walls to (2) upper ceiling corner positions in the family room, and to (2) ceiling corner positions in the separate living room, and (2) more to the back yard eaves. I also have a TV going out. I figure the thing to do is to buy a home theater system, but I want to have the option of the sound going to the speakers in the other areas, or not.
BTW, I am extremely price sensitive (we have started the adoption application process, and it involves writing a lot of 4-figure and 5-figure checks). I spent a lot of money (at the time) on a rack stereo 20 years ago, but am much cheaper now. I would be much prouder to show off a decent system purchased at a great price than a great system purchased at a decent price.
I'd like to buy a HD-ready TV, traditional tube type, 30-32 inch, a home theater-in-a-box, and I gues I need a speaker switching set-up. Any input is welcome, but specific questions are:
1. What type of wattage is the minimum I should get on the system?
2. On the TV- 16:9 or 4:3
3. Any brands recommended? Any compatability issues?
Thanks in advance...
